Berwick-upon-Tweed is famous for being England's most northernmost city. It sits at the tip of Northumberland and spans both sides of the River Tweed. Over the centuries, it's also become the most fought-over place in Europe, with the border between Scotland and England moving back and forth more than a dozen times over the years. Though it's been firmly placed within England for more than 500 years, the Scottish left their mark, particularly on the accent. When you stay in a Berwick-upon-Tweed bed and breakfast, don't miss walking across the Grade I listed Berwick Bridge, which was built more than 4 centuries ago.
In some form of other, the guesthouses and B&Bs in Berwick-upon-Tweed have been the staple accommodation of choice for centuries. The city might have several hotels, but nothing beats staying in the homely atmosphere of a B&B. Many of the owners have run their bed and breakfasts in Berwick-upon-Tweed for years and are always happy to offer advice on the best things to do and see when you visit. It doesn't matter whether you're bringing the family on a weekend getaway or coming on a romantic break with your loved one, there's always a B&B that fits the bill. Some are quaint little stone-built houses, which haven't changed all that much over the years. Others are a little more swish, with boutique interiors and luxury furnishings. There are, of course, budget options, too, if you'd rather save your cash for the restaurants and attractions. Whatever your preference, you can always find your perfect B&B match on Expedia, which lists every property, along with detailed descriptions and photos. Just filter the results by location, budget and dates, scan through the B&Bs and book in just a few minutes. Simple.
When you've checked into your guestroom, you'll find it comes with all the amenities you might expect to find in a hotel room, like a flat-screen TV on the wall, complimentary WiFi and a kettle for making tea and coffee. Most will come with ensuite bathrooms stocked with toiletries, towels and a hairdryer. If you pick right, you could nab a guestroom with views over the river or some of Berwick-upon-Tweed's historical monuments. If you've got specific needs, for example, you want to bring the kids along, you won't have any trouble finding a family-sized or interconnecting room on Expedia. After a comfortable night's sleep, a big breakfast will be waiting for you downstairs, with things like full English fry-ups, porridge, or lighter options, like fruit and yogurt, on offer. It's the perfect way to fuel up for the day. Looking for a completely different break? Why not try a weekend discovering Edinburgh activities, instead?
You're spoilt for choice when it comes to things to do and places to eat when you stay in a Berwick-upon-Tweed bed and breakfast. In the summer, families and couples make a dash for the nearby beaches to work on their tan, build sandcastles or splash around in the sea. While you're there, don't miss the chance to go walking along the spectacular coastal paths. Talking about walks, back in Berwick-upon-Tweed, be sure to amble around the great Elizabethan walls that surround the town, built to keep invading Scots at bay back in the 16th century. Along the way, you can enjoy magnificent views of the estuary and the Royal Tweed Bridge, which used to be part of the A1 motorway. If you're a fan of art, you could visit the Granary Gallery, Gymnasium Gallery or the Watchtower Gallery. Stay in a Berwick-upon-Tweed bed and breakfast at the right time and you could immerse yourself in one of the many summer festivals, which range from film to beer.
