The onsen hotel is a standalone Japanese‑style house, which made the stay feel more authentic. We slept on tatami, which was a unique experience for us. Getting up from the floor was a bit challenging for me, but the futon mattress—with its cooling topper—was incredibly comfortable. We also had our meals served in the room. Although each dish came in small portions, the full course was more than enough to fill me up. The dining table is low, as is typical in traditional Japanese rooms, so you’re essentially sitting or kneeling on the floor. After eating, getting up became even harder. Our room included a private hot spring, which was one of the main reasons I splurged on this stay. However, I could see someone else’s balcony from the bath area, so my husband had to hang a cloth to block the view. Aside from that, my only real complaint is that the staff seemed to rush us through the meal. I’m usually a fast eater, but when I choose in‑room dining, I want the freedom to take photos and enjoy the experience without feeling pressured. We didn’t use the dining hall, which is the alternative option and offers regular tables and chairs.
