Good deal for a midweek night

Posted 08-Jan-2017
Cons: Evening menu good, but not cheap.
Location: near to park and ride for lots of city activities and history
This hotel is next to the racecourse but also a short drive (5 mins) from park and ride, which seems to be the easiest way into York. As a family of 4 we were in a 2 x double room which was OK. We enjoyed the pool / sauna / steam room, and the breakfast was good.

As newly weds and having no children in tow this year my wife and I were looking for a non Christmas break . The Marriott proved an excellent location . Warm and comfy and perfectly located . Would recommend this hotel to anyone visiting York .

Great hotel

Posted 20-Dec-2016
Pros: Location, parking and facilities
Cons: It is looking a bit tired in places, the woodwork etc but it's clean
Location: Next to the Racecourse, about 10 mins from Designer Outlet and 15mins from City Centre.
Great location for city centre, hospital and the Designer Outlet. Breakfast was lovely and the fact it was buffet style was great, plenty to choose from too. Staff were friendly and the room was clean and a good size for a family room. The pool looked lovely although we didn't use it. We will definitely be back.

What you'd expect

Posted 18-Dec-2016
What you'd expect, nice hotel. Pool is good. Location is good. Just what we were after for a trip away to York. Would recommend. Free parking a bonus and plenty of it too.

Very enjoyable stay

Posted 09-Dec-2016
The staff are exceptionally helpful and friendly from the moment we stepped out of our taxi on arrival to the departure of our trip. The food was lovely, we had a cooked breakfast, lots of choice, and had a mid afternoon snack, the portion sizes were really good too. The beds were really comfortable too, had a great nights sleep. Would highly recommend the hotel.

Hotel looked nice and welcoming but...

Posted 09-Dec-2016
Pros: The appearance was lovely and welcoming
Location: The hotel is a 35 minute walk to the centre which isnt too far and it is has a lovely view of the racecourse.
The hotel was lovely and welcoming and was very festive which is nice this time of year. We was disappointed with the room because we booked a double room which had 2 double beds in it so made the room feel quite small and the bathroom door didn't open properly as it caught on the edge of one of the beds. There was no robes in the room which I did expect in a hotel like this which also offers spa facilities. We had a massage booked and would have preferred to wear a robe so we didn't get the oil on our clothes and for comfort but there wasn't one provided and we couldn't get one when we asked at the spa. The bar in the evening was nice and not overally expensive for drinks and the food in the morning for breakfast was very nice, Overall it is a nice hotel but for the price that we paid for the night I would have expected a bit more.

Really nice hotel but not as good as it used to be

Posted 05-Dec-2016
Enjoyable stay as usual. I have stayed at this hotel several times. The last time i was there enjoyed the fuss from staff such as doormen carrying bags, opening doors and greetings on arrivals everytime i pulled up to hotel in taxi. This stay on arrival no greetings given room key and directions. A long walk plus stairs with cases and my elderley mother. We eventually found our room in a wing that was been redecorated. Room was nice but very dusty. Staff in restaurant seemed okay but much better service at breakfast. I would stay again but a bit let down as it used to be much better and accomadating.

Good Location

Posted 05-Dec-2016
Pros: Location, size of room.
Cons: Cleanliness, attention to detail.
Location: Fantastic pub (the Fox and Roman) just a short walk down the road that does a fantastic breakfast open from 9am.
Good Location for what we needed, nice enough staff (although don't expect anyone to come and help you with the door if your key consistently won't work) and large size room. Thankfully I was staying there due to a function in York and had a drink with dinner because had I not and I had seen the state of the bedding before I went to sleep I wouldn't have been able to sleep in the room. The sheets and pillows on my bed (I was sharing a twin room) were stained. However, bathroom and towels were clean. All amenities needed for a nights stay were there - if not slightly overpriced.
