About this property

LA MAISON DU PORT in the heart of Naples, in a magnificent setting

  • La Casa sul Porto is located in a quiet and well-connected area, very close to the Metro station, the ferry terminals for the islands in the Gulf of Naples, and all of the city’s most iconic landmarks—most of which are within walking distance. There is a wide selection of restaurants and pizzerias in the immediate vicinity. The apartment is equipped with all necessary safety features for guests and features a dishwasher, washing machine, generously sized smart TVs in every room, and blackout curtains on the three small balconies. The hardwood floors give the rooms a cosy feel; the sofa bed features a 190x140x18 French-style mattress, and the open-concept kitchen includes a large snack table perfect for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. There is an additional dining table in the living room. The heating is independent with electronic temperature control, and all rooms are equipped with air conditioning. From Casa sul Porto, you can easily walk to many of the city’s most visited and iconic sites, such as the Maschio Angioino, Piazza del Plebiscito with the Royal Palace and the Basilica of St. Francis of Paola, the Galleria Umberto I, the Royal San Carlo Theatre, and take a lovely stroll along the waterfront with its legendary Castel dell’Ovo. It won’t be hard to get lost in the colourful alleys of the Quartieri Spagnoli to grab a traditional bite to eat or just enjoy an aperitif, and if you don’t feel like sitting down, street food is a staple in Naples. What I’ve described can be done in a single day—hopefully when the weather is nice. If you have a few more days to spare, I suggest visiting the historic centre, starting from Piazza del Gesù Nuovo, the monumental complex of Santa Chiara—a monastery and convent with its beautiful majolica-tiled cloister—and from there, just a stone’s throw away, continue on to Piazza San Domenico Maggiore with its medieval basilica towering above it, then head along the Decumano Inferiore to Via San Gregorio Armeno, where you’ll find nativity scene artisans as well as the beautiful Baroque church of San Gregorio with its cloister. There’s no shortage of pizzerias, restaurants, and street food in that area. Once you reach Via dei Tribunali, you can head towards Piazza Bellini by strolling along the Decumano Maggiore. In the square dedicated to the famous composer, you’ll find the statue of Vincenzo Bellini alongside the remains of the ancient Greek walls, surrounded by historic buildings and many small bars. It’s one of the liveliest gathering spots in the city, not far from the Academy of Fine Arts and the San Pietro a Maiella Conservatory. You can wrap up your tour by walking down Via San Sebastiano—the street of the luthiers and historic musical instrument shops—and then return to Piazza del Gesù Nuovo. If you’re spending several days in the city and are interested in cultural sites, I recommend the National Archaeological Museum (MANN). With its treasures, you can spend a few hours there if you just want to see the most important collections—such as those from Pompeii, Herculaneum, and the Farnese Collection; or spend the entire day there if you’re a true enthusiast, adding the Etruscan, Egyptian, and numismatic collections to your visit—you might even consider taking a guided tour, as it’s one of the world’s most important museums of its kind. If, on the other hand, you’d like to combine a lovely walk through the woods with a museum visit, the Capodimonte Royal Palace (Museum)—featuring paintings by Caravaggio, Titian, Raphael, and many others—is the perfect choice for you. If you have more time to spend in the city, I’d be happy to recommend other itineraries—there’s certainly no shortage of places to visit.
