Morillon is a village in Haute-Savoie, popular in winter for its snow and ski slopes.
Morillon is a 50-minute drive from Geneva in the heart of the Haut-Griffe valley. The village is part of the 5 Grand Massif ski areas that include Flaine andSamoënsSixt-Fer-à-Cheval. Morillon is the most family-friendly of all the resorts, and certainly the least expensive. The resort is ideally located at an altitude of between 2230 feet and 8200 feet (680-2500 m), making it possible to practice a wide range of winter sports: alpine skiing, cross-country skiing, snowboarding, etc. Families will love its calm atmosphere, the beginners’ slopes and the village for children (from 6 months to 10 years) with tobogganing, an ice rink and free activities.
After a great day on the slopes, you will definitely want to relax and enjoy a good hot meal. The village has a good number of restaurants serving traditional Savoyard dishes. There’s nothing like a good fondue by the fire to recharge your batteries! You’ll also find a few cafés and bars if you want to continue the evening and enjoy a few beers. Morillon is a small village. If you want more action, there’s nothing stopping you going a few miles further on to Samoëns.
Morillon is also an ideal summer destination. Approximately half a mile from the centre of the village, you will find the magnificent Blue Lake where you can take a refreshing dip in the summer under the careful watch of the lifeguards. In addition to swimming, there are numerous organised activities at the lake: the treetop adventure trail, horse riding, trampolines, pétanque, tennis, volleyball, fishing, etc. You won’t know which way to turn and the children will be more than satisfied.
Morillon is easy to access by car, however in winter make sure you have snow chains – it’s better to be safe than to risk an accident. If you prefer to take the train, the nearest train station is Cluses, and shuttles buses will take you up to Morillon village. For travel from the UK, you have the choice of several airports. The closest and most practical is Genève Cointrin Airport which is 40 miles away and offers a regular bus service up to Morillon. Chambéry and Annecy airports are a little more remote but can also be a good option for starting your holiday in Morillon.
