How about some air conditioning?

Posted 21-Aug-2015
Can't believe that the only air conditioning available was only turning the fan higher or lower. Thank God it was only 80 degrees when we were there unlike 100 degrees just a few days ago. The overall resort is very nice with a great place to go have a glass of wine and watch the sunset. Our room had a nice little deck but it had an ash tray out there waiting for us. It was a non-smoking room but I guess you could smoke on the deck. If our neighbors had been outside smoking on their deck (5 feet away) it would have been miserable. My advice? Call the hotel directly and ask about their smoking policy, the availability of an air conditioned room and also what actual type of room you are getting. They gave us a "fully accessible" room without us asking for it. I would have preferred a real shower rather than one with a seat unit and a shower head that was loose that you had to hold in your hand. In other words...I'll give it a 3.

Outdated nickle and dime 'resort'

Posted 20-Aug-2015
Spent 350 ready for a fancy night. Instead room was tiny and dingy. Bathroom even smaller. Had to walk long way for ice. Rollaway extra 40. Fridge was extra 25. Really? Had a better stay hands down at holiday inn express following night for half the price. Don't ever stay here for more than 150.

Nice location...terrible rooms

Posted 15-Aug-2015
The location is very nice. Beautiful views and grounds. On the other hand, the rooms are in need of a major makeover. The a/c was broken in our room and we had a leak in our bathroom ceiling. The room smelled like a mix of must and carpet deodorizer. It was also very noisy. Not very good sound barriers between rooms. There was a woman at checkin that was very rude, however, all other staff was very nice and accommodating. We only ate at the restaurant for breakfast. The food was very good and the staff was amazing. I wouldn't stay there again unless I was informed that the hotel underwent a major renovation!

Pretty venue for a wedding party

Posted 10-Aug-2015
Pros: Setting is beautiful--some lovely hiking trails ring the facilities.
Cons: More trained staff, eliminate resort fee, improve water pressure, better pool facilities.
Location: A great wedding venue itself, near the charming towns of Soquel, Capitola, Aptos, and Santa Cruz.
For the price, this resort and spa hotel was disappointing. The rooms/beds/linens are very nice and the setting is lovely--especially for a wedding party. We had three different rooms in three different buildings--so got a good feel for it. Still, it is an expensive hotel, so was surprised to be charged for a rollaway bed, and I'm really unsure what the addition $15/day resort fee was for? The pool is small and old with little shade--you have to rent a cabana! The bar there was set up in blazing hot sun. There was no water pressure in the showers; the toilets in some buildings flushed very loudly for minutes, and some kind of generator or the A/C unit vibrated violently beneath our 2nd floor room. Most of the desk/valet/and wait staff in the restaurant and bar all seem rather inexperienced and with a forced friendliness as if they were unsure about explaining "the rules." We couldn't sit in one patio during one period or and could only sit on the patio during another period...it was a little odd. Each morning, they had run out of coffee or plates for breakfast or silverware...It was a good choice for our weekend, but I wouldn't recommend it.

Hotel has seen better days

Posted 07-Aug-2015
Pictures of this resort lovely. 30 years old, this resort has seen much better days. Short-staffed, mediocre food, old pool. Must say the view is panoramic of ocean . I left hotel everyday early am to scout out areas for breakfast , lunch or dinner , and found memorable restaurants. Would only book again if I needed a quick reservation. Most places are already booked by vacation travelers and Chaminade had bookings available.

Nice rooms, but Issues

Posted 04-Aug-2015
Pros: Nice surroundings in a wooded area.
Cons: Maintenance and restaurant
Many of the rooms have plumbing problems where sinks clog and smell up the room. Also we found the restaurant to be shabby and underwelming given a $350 price.

Ok hotel but not worth the price.

Posted 04-Aug-2015
It is quiet if you want to stay away from the craziness of the beach. The pool is very nice and clean but the chairs around the pool are stained and worn. The room is outdated and worn out. The room service was timely but the food was not good. Ordered the filet and got pot roast instead. The walls are thin and you can hear everyone around you. Parking is also a bit of an issue. Hidden resort fees and the gal at the front counter was not friendly at all.

Resort fees not included in price per night.

Posted 26-Jul-2015
Pros: Property.
Cons: Walls were a little thin & I could here people talking next door.
Chaminade Resort is a beautiful property set in hills above Santa Cruz. I did not have time to walk the trails or enjoy the swimming pool or tennis courts but they looked well kept. Although I did not use any resort "amenities" I was still charged $30 a night. These fees should be included in per night prices IMHO.
