The building is very well maintained with mid-century period decor and our room was large and comfortable. The spring fed pool is always 80deg and there is a convenient sauna but no hot tub, unfortunately since it’s cold when sun sets. Yes, the location is amazing, yes it is from the '20s (as in 1920s) with a long history and lots of stories. But what impressed us the most were the people. The staff went above and beyond the call of duty to make us feel welcome. Because of them a stay at this hotel feels like a special event. We were given a suite on the towers, which was quite large. The problem was that in those days the elevator was out of service and we had to carry two huge suitcases up 3 flights of stairs. Furthermore, there is carpet everywhere and the room smelled a little bit (I think the reason was the old carpet). The grounds were well kept, pool was a bit cool. Food at restaurant was disappointing. I had the toughest pork chop ever. I had to saw it, using more muscle than normal. Wife's enchilada was mediocre. Wine choice by the glass was very limited. They were out of the cab listed on the menu. The substitute "Born of Fire" 2018 from Columbia Valley was surprisingly good. When I ordered 2nd glass we asked waitress to bring the bottle so we could take a picture. When she brought the refill, she said the bottle had been tossed and there was no more!? We gave our main courses a D and C, respectively. Desert, cheese cake, was so so. So the $174 dinner was worth much less. The hotel seems to have passed its prime. Elevator was slow and creaky.
