"The hotel in situated in a lovely location and we found it to be very quite we suited us nicely. We had breakfast and evening meal and we could not fault it. We normally stay in the travel lodge when we go up to Bishop Auckland but we will use the Park Head in future."

"The Hotel is a treat for the eyes and a great place to relax in the many rooms. A beautiful bar and a great breakfast kept us satisfied after a day of exploring the area. A super comfortable bed made our stay even better. The golf course looks beautiful and the hiking trails are interesting. Easy to park your car. The staff were helpful and very polite. "Good free breakfast for all guests although we were charged extra by Expedia which was annoying. Dated decor in the rooms but clean bathroom. Our room was very cold and the heating only worked intermittently (we turned the radiator to full but it came on for about an hour one night and roasted us on the final night, two other nights had no heating at all). Parking was ok but we got the last available space on a couple of days after going out… I think you can park in the approach road for free until 8am but don’t quote me on that."

"Everything about The George was very good but it is obviously in the midst of much needed renovations. I felt very sad because I grew up in the area and it was always such a popular hotel. However, we enjoyed our stay and the staff were all very helpful. Dinner was good, despite having to wait quite a long time for it. Good luck to the owners for the future and hope that the renovations go well."

"Location was good, amenities very good, the offsite room was slightly small for our two suitcases. When they say that parking is limited they are not wrong but it is also quite difficult to get into with a slightly bigger cast - especially for Australians already struggling with the parking in the UK 🙂. However we were lucky to find parking near the offsite room. Hotel itself is lovely and the dinner and breakfast very good. Staff were excellent."

"Appleby Castle is a special destination, steeped in history that you can experience first hand. Staff care deeply about the castle and we thoroughly enjoyed the piano playing during the meal and the history talk after. Having read some of the other reviews, we can’t say we experienced any of the negatives and thought Peter, Sally (and chef!) did a great job it being just them running the castle."

"Delighted with our room! It was very clean and fresh and well stocked with tea/coffee/chocolate, plus toiletries. The shower was easy to use, the water hot and plentiful, and the towels were thick and fluffy. The bed had a feather duvet which made it very luxurious and super cosy! The staff we met were polite, helpful and a credit to the company. We didn't use Restaurant next door for breakfast, but we did have an evening meal there (a cheese burger - two patties - and a chicken parmo - breaded chicken with tomato puree and garlic and cheese topping). The food was hot, the portion size generous and fantastic value for money. This place is ideal for visiting Beamish, or the Tanfield Railway (like we did). Seriously can't recommend it enough!"
