Question 13

When is the best time to go to Medellin?

Accepted Answer

The best time to visit Medellin is during the dry season, which typically runs from December to February and then again from June to September.

During these months, you'll experience less rainfall and plenty of sunshine, making it ideal for exploring the city's outdoor attractions like the MetroCable system, which offers fantastic views, or wandering through the Botanical Garden. The weather is consistently pleasant, with average temperatures around 22-25°C (72-77°F).

Families often find these dry periods superb for a visit. The consistent good weather allows for comfortable outings to places like Parque Explora, an interactive science museum, or Parque Arví, a nature reserve accessible by cable car, without the worry of rain disrupting plans.

For couples looking for a romantic getaway, the dry season also provides the best conditions for enjoying Medellin's rooftop bars and outdoor dining experiences.

Question 14

Where can I find the best nightlife in Medellin?

Accepted Answer

Medellin offers several distinct areas for nightlife, each with its own character.

El Poblado is the most popular area for visitors and has the highest concentration of bars, clubs, and restaurants. Within El Poblado, you'll find Parque Lleras, which is the traditional centre, featuring many bars, clubs, and outdoor seating areas that spill onto the streets. The surrounding streets, particularly along Calle 9A and Carrera 38, also have numerous upscale cocktail bars and dance venues.

Laureles is another excellent choice, offering a more local feel than El Poblado. The main strip for nightlife here is along La 70 (Avenida Nutibara), which is lined with bars, discotecas playing salsa and reggaeton, and casual pubs. It's a busy area, especially on weekends, with a mix of indoor and outdoor establishments.

Envigado, particularly around Parque Envigado, provides a more relaxed evening experience. You'll find a good selection of traditional Colombian bars and restaurants where locals gather. It's generally quieter than El Poblado or Laureles, focusing more on conversation over drinks and food.

Sabaneta, south of Envigado, also has a prominent nightlife scene centred around Parque Sabaneta. Similar to Envigado, it offers a more local atmosphere with numerous bars, restaurants, and places to listen to live music, particularly traditional Colombian genres.
