Pocket Guide: Alberta Lake Louise Hotels

A Quiet Mountain Village in Stunning Surroundings

For the noise made about Lake Louise, you’d be forgiven for expecting a much bigger resort. The stunning peaceful mountain hamlet on the shores of the crystal blue lake is everything you want from a Canadian mountain holiday in the Banff National Park. With several places to stay to suit all budgets – from hostels to the exquisite chateau perched alongside the lake – you’ll be sure to find your perfect accommodation in Lake Louise.

Embrace the Mountain Lifestyle in Lake Louise

Wherever your hotel is in Lake Louise, you’ll never be far from the mountains. The peaks of Mount Temple, Mount Whyte and Mount Niblock ring the village, and mountain culture is at the heart of the life here. The skiing and snowboarding in Lake Louise’s mountains draw visitors from far and wide, but you can also try your hand at ice fishing, skating, dog sledding and ice climbing. In summer the resort calms down and the mountains open up a world of hiking trails, water sports and rock faces for climbing, all easy to get to from your accommodation.

Lake Louise, which takes its name from the nearby lake named after Queen Victoria’s daughter, has a population of around 1,000 people, making it one of the smaller places to stay in Banff National Park. The hamlet started out as a station on the Canadian Pacific Railway route in 1890, but now it has a great number of hotels, inns and lodges to choose from, as well as excellent amenities and fantastic restaurants. It’s only 35 miles away from Banff along Highway 1.

The main Lake Louise community, known as The Village, grew up around the beautiful Trans-Canada Highway (Highway 1), making it easy to access the mountains and the rest of Banff National Park. The Village has a small shopping centre, where you can pick up food, drinks as well stock up on all the new sports gear.

If you stay in one of the hotels in Lake Louise during your visit to the Banff National Park you’ll be close to the glaciers, waterfalls and wildlife of the beautiful Canadian Rockies.
