Only visited one temple site 15 minutes walk away, but what a gem! Ohara Sanzenin is a beauty—and we saw it at the tail end of Winter when one wouldn’t expect much to see. The temple and garden capture much of the essence that is Kyoto. Was very impressive. The Ryokan is clean with traditional tatami mat rooms. Sleep on thin futons on the floor which some people might find too hard. It seems like no air conditioning only heating, so may be hot in the summer time but in spring it was fine with heat turned off Lovely hot shared onsen separate ones for men and women. Yukata and kimono were provided for each guest to use around the premises. Traditional Japanese breakfast with rice, miso soup, fish, pickled vegetables. I found the fish overcooked and too salty.
