"Great spot away from the busy Tokyo area. The rooms and the hotel is special in its own way and has a lot of character. Felt like being in my grandparents home. "Not worth it. Way over priced! We stayed one night. Staff are very nice. But the place is of a by gone era. It’s old but not in a charming way. Showers in the onsen are cold and you have to wait for many minutes in order for hot water to come out. The rooms and elevators are old. the outdoor hotspring is on the top floor with no facilities (you have to go downstairs first and shower) and no real view to speak of. "We stayed in the Standard Double Room, Non Smoking (No Extra Bed, 18 sqm). The room was clean, practical, and slightly more spacious than typical business hotels. The bathroom had a small bath tub, which is customary, and a humidifier was provided where you add your own water before switching it on. Amenities such as coffee, toothbrushes, and combs were available at the lobby’s self-service corner. Check in was smooth and the hotel already had our Expedia reservations prepared. As with most Japanese hotels, copies of our passports were taken during registration. The hotel also provides coin laundry facilities along with vending machines for drinks and beer. The location is convenient, a short walk from Matsumoto Station and within walking distance to Matsumoto Castle. While there is a shopping mall right beside the hotel, it is currently closed. The nearest active mall is further south, closer to the bus terminal. Overall, Richmond Hotel Matsumoto provided a comfortable stay in a well connected part of the city."

"Feels amazing! Every dollar well spent! First if feels like home for an Asian when you had to remove your shoe the moment you step into the hotel. You can walk bare feet from your room to your lobby and even to have breakfast. Next, the breakfast spread is mad crazy good and value for money ITS A MUST! Remember to add the breakfast option hands down! Room is clean, toilet is great as well! Next, the public onsen for guest is also pretty chill! Would book this hotel again for sure!"
