Since the time when Paris was still called Lutèce, l’Île-de-France has been the place for the most important events in the history of France. Here you can admire the most famous royal residences in the country, like the Château of Fontainebleau, the Louvre Palace and the Château of Versailles. Also discover the seats of the major institutions of the republic, sheltered behind the walls of the Élysée, the Bourbon Palace and the Palace of Luxembourg, in the heart of Paris. Some of these religious buildings are the most important for the Christian faith in France, such as the Cathedral of Notre-Dame, Sainte-Chapelle and the basilica of Sacré-Cœur of Montmartre in Paris, plus the basilica of Saint-Denis, and the Cathedral of Saint-Étienne at Meaux. If the weather is sunny, take a walk through the many green spaces in the region. Treat yourself to a walk and picnic in the Forest of Rambouillet or in the Forest of Dourdan, a boat trip on the lake in the Bois de Vincennes, a hot air balloon trip above the Forest of Fontainebleau, or a spectacular son et lumière in the park and gardens at Versailles. You could also discover l’Île-de-France along its canals...
If it rains? Never mind, opt for an exhibition or an art gallery! Start by exploring those in Paris, at the Louvre and the Musée d’Orsay, at Beaubourg or the Musée d’Art Moderne. At Saint-Germain-en-Laye, discover the Musée Claude Debussy and the national archaeological museum and at Fontainebleau, the Musée Stéphane Mallarmé.
If you are on a family holiday in Île-de-France, enjoy the fabulous theme parks: Disneyland® Paris, Walt Disney Studios, and Parc Astérix, and the most original attractions such as Parc France Miniature at Élancourt and the Écopark Adventures at Sannois, plus many mini-golf courses and paintball fields.
Île-de-France is a significant agricultural region and its gastronomic specialities are as varied as they are famous, in every sense of the word. Make the most of your holiday by tasting the products of regional food – such as brie from Melun and Meaux, Gâtinais honey, ham from Paris, Vexin beer, and strawberries from the valley of the Bièvre... Don’t forget two legendary products created in this region: Grand-Marnier and “Paris-Brest”.
Your plane will land at one of two airports in Île-de-France; in the north-east: Paris-Charles-de-Gaulle (CDG) , or in the south of the capital: Paris-Orly (ORY), both of which can be reached from UK airports.
Smart planning: to explore this destination with peace of mind while saving money, think about hiring a car.

What an amazing hotel. From the moment we walked through the door we was amazed. Staff are so friendly, hotel is spotlessly clean. Rooms are perfect size for a family of 4. And the pool is clean and relaxing. Breakfast had a large choice and restaurant was clean too. We spotted something different ...
Location was excellent, central to all sights, breakfast was good but a little poor on the tea / coffee facilities
Everytime I stay in Disneyland Hotel in Paris is like a fairytale :) I wake up with a nice smell in the hotel, it is amazing after you finish fun and shopping at the Parks you can come back to the room for a short break as it is close by and then you go back to your adventure at Disneylank parks. ...
Very nice clean hotel, friendly staff, nice rooms (albeit a bit warm even with the 'air con' on!). Buffet restaurant was OK - expensive at €30 per person and not a huge selection but food was satisfactory.
