"The hotel is old and tired. The directional signage is confusing. Dinner is an awful buffet reminiscent of 70s school dinners. I was advised to not have breakfast. Staff roll their eyes, or, if you enquire about a vegetarian option, quiz you on if you really are a vegetarian. If you aren't, then they tell you the veggie option should have been preordered! They do not check their messages either so if you do message the hotel, no action will be taken."

"rooms were really well appointed and had everything I needed including a Tassimo coffee machine, desk and microwave - great for working away. Food stops at 8pm which is normally when I order so made an effort to go at 7:25 and the bar staff looked harassed and disorganized and said it would be a 90 minute wait for food so I gave up, as it was supposed to have finished an hour before that. However I did have a drink and whilst I was there I watched the deputy manager step in, support his staff, clear the backlog, deal with complaints and then come and speak to me and got me the food I would have ordered. I was very impressed "

"The carpet had stains, the shower screen had mould and dust on lampshade and creased net curtains. All very minor but if fixed it would be a definite fix star. The amenities and facilities themselves are fantastic. "

"Derby Mickleover Hotel has wonderful friendly, helpful and professional staff who offer a warm welcome and constant, friendly enthusiasm to enable one's stay to be a good experience. However their refreshing professionalism and warm manner, is marred by a hotel that has seen grander times. Everywhere, the hotel is looking a bit tired and is in definite need of some investment to its interior and facilities. I have stayed here frequently due to its location, convenience and lovely staff but these professionals deserve a hotel that is current in its fresh interiors and facilities. I have had to call for house keeping or maintenance to assist in rooms I have been booked into, due to malfunctioning facilities or because I have found unacceptable large areas of black mould growing on bathroom ceilings for example. I have stayed in a lot of this hotel's rooms and in all price ranges. It is disappointing to see and stay at such a hotel with enormous potential; when a lick of fresh paint or replacement of tired facilities or a more rigorous upkeep of rooms with investment, enabling staff to not only perform day to day house keeping but more deep cleaning. Proper investment to provide updating and thorough maintenance of the wider hotel picture and infrastructure, would once again allow this hotel to shine as a luxury hotel if character. Come on Best Western! "

"Reception Check-in and porter to room very effecient. No O2 mobile phone signal in room. Room size compact. Described as "Superior King", but on entry definitely small and UK "King", ie:- 5ft. wide, not what I was expecting, ie:- 6ft wide. Bathroom not properly cleaned with dirt around bottom of shower screen and black mould on back of door and bottom of door frame rotten and black mould. Bench seating in restraunt had worn out PVC covered cusghions with some of the PVC covering missing. Food for Dinner and Breakfast satisfactory with poor service."
