"I could not recommend this hotel enough if you intend to stay in the Hikone area. The hotel itself is surprisingly luxurious with great amenities and service. It's right outside of the Hikone castle area and you can get a great view of the castle and the surrounding areas basically at all times. It's also right near the Yumek"

"Traditional ryokan with futons and a sunken dining area, where you have to remove your shoes once you enter the ryokan (much like what you do when you visit any home in the far east). However, it still has a modern private bathroom and toilet for creature comfort. Most of all, the hosts showed great hospitality and attention to detail when it comes to service. "They offered free shuttle service to the nearest JR stations. Nice quiet area for a hot spring vacation. Breakfast and dinner were included in our package, and the food was fabulous and very authentic. It was my second time returning Yumotokan, and everything had been maintained up to standard or even better. Highly recommended!"

"Overall it is really an excellent hotel. Many of the rooms should be updated, but still they are adequate and spacious. The breakfast area can be busy, but there is a large adjacent room with plenty of space. The hotel staff were great. The onsen has a spacious indoor bath and plenty of washing areas. The outdoor bath is very pleasant, just be careful walking on the stone surfaces. The staff takes good care of the onsen and sauna. The location is good. You can walk to Nagahama JR station and the old town area is just beyond. The lake and the large beautiful next door park and castle is good for walking. There are not many restaurants open at night in central Nagahama, but you can probably find something."
