We went to Cape Coral, home of the largest concentration of burrowing owls (Athene cunicularia floridana) in Florida. In the heat of midday, our search turned up plenty of staked off burrows and wooden perches, but no owls in sight. We decided to head to the coast for a spell and return to owl spotting near dusk. On our way out of the library parking lot, this down right adorable specimen appeared on a previously unoccupied perch!
