It is a unique experience with both public onsen baths overlooking the mountains or a private onsen bath in your beautifully layed out well appointed room. Pajamas and traditional clothing is provided and encouraged to wear to your personally curated dinner. If you want a spa service book ahead. If you are in hurry to get to your next destination consider hiring a car service as check out time is very busy and there can be some trouble getting a cab. We had a private onsen which not only was relaxing, but actually improved our skin!! We learned after that the spring water has healing effects. The staff were very attentive. Last but not least the food was exceptional - we opted for the traditional Japanese dinner and every course was Michelin level curated. They also accommodated my very specific allergy (allium). Our only complaint was that it was too much food - we couldn’t believe how many courses there were. Room was spacious and comfortable. Nice decor. Great beds. Excellent amenities. In room spa bath very nice. Staff extremely attentive and gracious. Shuttle service into Goran Station nearby much appreciated. We were here just one night. Included dinner and breakfast. Set menus. Too much food, to be honest. Staff seemed to recognize this and were almost apologetic about it. Clearly most people find it to be too much. It was quite good. And nicely prepared and presented. Of course not suggesting this is a fault, but just an observation. Our arrival was around noon and we weren’t able to check in. There was nothing to do on the property so we went into Gora Station. Recommend against showing up before check in time if you can avoid it. We weren’t previously aware of the Hakone Tozan railway that runs from Hakone Yumoto to Gara Station. We took this train on our departure. It’s a magnificent 40 minute ride through lush woods and valleys with amazing views of the surrounding mountains.
