Pluses and Minuses
Location was Great. Room comfortable but old and odd space. Although it had an elevator, we still had to deal with stairs to get to room. Halls were very dark with steps that can be hazardous. We will be returning to Guimaraes but arrange different accomodations.

Location was perfect but a little noisy at night with all the traffic but this comes with the location. Room was comfortable and bedding as well . There was no air conditioning therefore closing the balcony doors to soundproof the room rendered it stuffy with no air circulation especially in the summer nights. The room has a temp control and fan controller but just for show. The shower was with slight mildew and leaked out of door but very spacious. Overall room conditions not a 4 star . I have traveled extensively and this is really a 3star. Breakfast is below par.

Beautiful hotel
This hotel is definitely a place I would like to stay again. Everything about it was nice. The only difficulty I had was with unloading my bags from my rental car. I would recommend not turning up in a self driven car if possible because of the difficulty of stopping in front of the hotel and the general difficulty of parking in central Guimarāes. But aside from that, everything was top notch, the staff were very nice and helpful and the location was unbeatable.

A lovely old bank building and the neighboring building very nicely repurposed. Excellent breakfast.

Great location
The hotel is in great location with great staff, just one thing to notice, the parking space is only available for TWO cars for hotel guests in front of hotel. Otherwise you'll have to ask the staff to offer other parking space nearby. The hotel is awesome!

Generally good, but with poorly lit stairways
The service was very good and quite helpful. The room was small and awkward. My main concern is that there were several places where lighting or other physical conditions probably wouldn't pass a US safety inspection e.g., a very poorly lit stairway down from the toilet above the breakfast room, a sensor light in a very dark hallway into the bedroom area that goes on just a bit after you take a step, and a long step from the reception area to the sidewalk in front of the hotel. Most such problems could be fixed.

Great location
Funky renovation in an historic bulding. On each floor a place to relax, the rooms are small with a good bed and bathroom. The breakfast is mediocre, , low quality of juices , fruits and jams in particular

In the heart of Gimaraes
The hotel is at Largo do Toural, the main squire of Gimaraes, close to everything in the town. The staff is very helpful. My room was very spacious with a modern bathroom although the sink was shallow and uncomfortable. It was inconvenient to work with my computer on the narrow shelf under the TV. The breakfast was good but the variety was definitely far away from what I expected from a 4 stars hotel.

Nice Hotel in City Center
Wonderful walkable location in the center of the city! Friendly staff, nice breakfast (great coffee "with milk"), comfortable bed and quiet. I will definitely be staying here again.

Lovely little hotel
Short taxi ride from train station , about €6 Quiet hotel , not too busy judging by the number of people at breakfast but hard to understand why . Lovely little hotel in good location with several bars, cafes and restaurants nearby.

Great for couples
The hotel only has 3 parking spaces. Closest free parking is a 10 minute walk away. The bathroom isnt separated from the bedroom, only suitable for intimate couples. Even with the negatives it was still our favourite hotel of the entire Portugal vacation!

Loved the location but it was difficult to park and unload luggage. This hotel use to be a bank. Architecture nice. Decor though is dark in hallways to rooms and you need to take stairs once out of elevators. Not practical. Rooms very modetn, clean and bed comfortable. Great location.

Great central city location and tres chic
Formerly a bank this has become as cool boutique hotel. Rooms are very clean, crisp and hip. Breakfast is good. The key issues are no parking at the hotel - loading and un loading spot is in a taxi stand. Also street noise could bother some and if so ask for a room in the back. However the front rooms facing the street have nice bay windows that run floor to ceiling and allow for wonderful views over the square.

Great Staff and location
Stayed at this hotel for 2 nights. The hotel is very well located in center of Guimaraes, we were able to walk everywhere. The staff is AMAZING, Catarina and Jose went above and beyond to make us feel welcomed. The hotel is very clean and the shower is amazing.

Great boutique hotel in the birthplace of Portugal
We stayed at the EMAJ Boutique Hotel in February. Originally, we planned to stay one day but decided to extend it another. The hotel is beautiful, their staff extremely helpful, and Guimaraes a great town. The hotel location is superb, overlooking one of the main squares, close to all the attractions. Breakfast is good by European standards (pastries and coffee). Parking is limited to three reserved stalls on the street. WiFi had some trouble in the rooms but was great in the main area (was being fixed during our stay). Overall, the experience was great and we would love to come back!
