Bedford Lodge Hotel & Spa

"The setting and grounds are lovely. The actual room was ok, although I had expected it to be a little more luxurious as a junior suite. There were a few things we noticed in the room - toilet flush was not working very well, the shower door was very noisy when closing and the sink plug was rusty. Also the TV in the room was a basic one with no smart features eg. Netflix or iPlayer etc. No USB plugs in any sockets. All these things I would expect for this type of establishment. The Spa was lovely.There is also a restaurant on site, Squires, which serves excellent food (dinner especially good). Food in the spa was not very good however. They could improve this - why not get the kitchen from the other Squires restaurant to make food for the spa? Staff were not as attentive as I would expect - quite a bit of waiting for someone to spot you if you needed something. Staff at the check in desk were not the most welcoming. Nothing rude but just not very interested or enthusiastic etc. For example when we checked out the girl didn't even ask how our stay was, were we happy with everything etc. This is basic and what every guest should be asked surely!? Overall we had a nice 2 night break but For the price you pay I expected more."

"This hotel has a great location just outside Colchester in the University Campus. Lovely staff - very friendly and helpful. Very good breakfast, but limited dinner options for the vegetarian /vegans. Our room in the old part of the hotel was nicely decorated but had an odd layout and an uncomfortable bed. I was told the new wing of the hotel is better. Notwithstanding that, it was a good stay and great value for money."

"A very well located Hotel. We paid extra for a room with a view, unfortunately this was on the 4th. floor, and for 80 year olds' 55 stairs and no lift was to say the least........testing."
