Fortwilliam Golf Club

Formed in 1891, Fortwilliam Golf Club is Belfast’s oldest, and certainly one of its most beloved, golf clubs. Located just off the Antrim Road, easily accessible from the north of the city, the course has a par of 70 spread over around 6,000 yards. Yes, it is a short course, relatively speaking, but it packs plenty of punch. Expect tricky greens and fairways lined with trees that pose substantial hazards to even the most experienced of golfers.

The surrounding scenery is justifiably famous. If you arrive for a round as a visitor, don’t be surprised if you leave Fortwilliam Golf Club a fully paid-up member, such is the unforgettable spectacle of Cave Hill to the west and Belfast Lough to the east. The clubhouse offers superb views, and you can enjoy them with an extensive menu with separate menus for Saturdays and Sunday lunch. A wide range of bistro meals and snacks are also served. The property is located in city centre close to shops, restaurants, bars and station. The hotel is very basic, we were given a room which had a wet room. It was very basic and required a renovation and the floor took ages to dry. There was plenty of hot water. Our room was not cleaned or towels changed the three nights we stayed there. However I did notice on last day there was a hook for door to make room up. I didn’t realise it was there. There are no tea/coffee facilities in room but you can make a tea/coffee at reception. The two members of reception staff were very helpful.

An amazing hotel. Offering what no other can. Quaint, luxurious, quiet, friendly with a vibe all of its own. Wonderful staff and exceptionally clean. A wonderful jewel in Belfast crown. Cannot rate it highly enough.
