Perfect escape from the city

Posted 15-Jan-2016
Although it's difficult to get there by public transport if youre going to Scotland for the first time, it is so secluded and pretty you won't mind. I went in January when it was slightly frosty and the didn't take away from the beauty of the location. Getting to Edinburgh from the hotel is also easy. The hotel itself has very comfortable beds I stayed in one of the upstairs rooms. The staff are really helpful and allowed me to check in early. The restaurant is also lovely, with really great fresh food. Definitely stay there if you want a relaxing break hidden away against fields.

3rd long stay in country hotel outside Edinburgh.

Posted 13-Jan-2016
Pros: exceptionally good, full made-to-order breakfast in included in the rate.
Cons: fine as is. no major improvements needed.
Location: country location. village near Ratko in easy walking distance which features a grocery store, sandwich shop which doubles as post office.ATM w. Cirrus
Check in was smooth. No lift but successful in lugging 30+kg. suitcase up & down 3 flights of stairs. Room was impeccably clean. Room safe was difficult to access due to its position on floor of closet and tendency to entrap tiny objects in door which forced me to call for help. Batteries were dead in safe but replaced after 1 day's wait. Shower and tub excellent. Wonderful array of amenities. Hotel has stopped supplying slippers. Miss them. Housekeeping excellent Breakfast is exceptionally good. No cappuccino as expected as this hotel is in Scotland not Italy. Breakfast staff excellent. Crowded on weekends and/or during wedding events. One clinker front desk man. All others helpful and friendly. Free fruit at front desk. Iron and iron board, very tiny fridge in room. No microwave. Wide screen TV with limited channel selction. Wake up calls can be set on room telephone. Prebooked taxi charged 30 pounds for trip to city centre, but ordinary cab charged only 20 pounds for excact same return trip. Excellent fitness center. Noisy neighbors often.

Nice hotel but rooms not suitable for families

Posted 31-Oct-2015 on Hotels
The staff at this hotel were very efficient and helpful We ate in brasserie which was excellent in both service and food Service at breakfast not so good tables not cleared at all Room was lovely with excellent bathroom, however, it was simply too small for a family. When the sofa bed was up there was nowhere to sit or put luggage or even walk around

Peaceful...considering the airport & 2 weddings!

Posted 26-Oct-2015
Pros: Room & Pool
Cons: The cost and quality of the food
Location: Very close to the airport...and that's about it!
We recently stayed here whilst visiting Edinburgh. We wanted a room that would accommodate the 4 of us (2 adults, plus 2 young children). We got an Executive double room which was located on the 1st floor, and overlooked the car park. Considering there had been 2 weddings that day/evening, we weren't disrupted by music/guests. Being so close to the airport, you are bound to hear the airplanes overhead, but it's not disruptive. The rooms was very clean and beds were very comfortable. The children shared a large sofa-bed, and there was still plenty of floor space! Tv a good size, lighting was great, bathroom/tea/coffee facilities plentiful & modern. The one thing I would complain about, was the lunch we had. I ordered a chorizo and bacon salad. It was a very small, basic salad that consisted of 6 ingredients, required very little skill to assemble, lacked taste...and costed £13.95?! Extremely poor value for money. The kids tomato pasta was basic/cheap standard and tasted very bland also...not surprised she left it! The cooked breakfast was tasty (not particularly big portions though) and my children were a tad hungry, after only being given a 1/4 full bowl of cereal?!.... I would consider staying here again, however, I would be reluctant to eat in the bar or brasserie.
