Perfectly located - but get dropped off if you can
"Perfectly located for strolls around Durham: Up to the Durham Cathedral, Durham Castle, Durham centre with restaurants, shops and cafés, less than 10 minute walk away.
We paid slightly more for a premium river view walk and we did not regret it. Perfect view in the morning and dusk of the world passing by.
Loved walking along Durham riverwalk. Highly recommend but would recommend you get dropped off if possible as parking is not free and can stack up if you’re staying more than one night. "

A nice country club hotel with plenty of character
"The hotel is quite dated which adds a lot of character to the property. The general areas are relatively clean but the room we were booked in has seen better days. There were some cobwebs near the windows and the floor was a bit dusty. We arrived almost midnight and quite tired so didn’t really do a complete check of the room. We did notice that one of the tv remotes were missing so I let the nightporter know. In the morning, breakfast was standard spread. All the hotel and restaurant staff we come across with at this property were really good and seemed to enjoy their work and makes for a very pleasant stay indeed."

"We booked a 2 night stay in one of the family rooms. For what the hotel offered it was exceptionally good value. We barely found any other hotels around with decent rooms for the same price, nevermind one with a swimming room and gym!
The family room was great, although we did switch it to begin with. The rooms are in 2 sections and our first room had one of the kids beds in with the double bed, meaning if we'd stayed there with our 2 year old we wouldn't have been able to watch TV, make a brew or even talk! Probably not an issue with older kids who stay up later, but just something to be mindful of when booking with younger kids. That being said they staff switched out room with no hesitation and we did get one that had both kids beds together and the double separate.
We arrived with bikes and the staff kindly allowed us to store them inside a locked room in the hotel which saved us the worry of leaving them on the car roof for the whole visit. Another nice touch.
Breakfast was great, porridge, fruit, cereals, croissants, yogurts and a full cooked option too. Enough there to fill our kids up and save a few quid on lunch!
Swimming was an added bonus, but just be mindful that kids can only swim 8am-10am (which is right through the breakfast time) or 2pm-6pm. This did take some careful planning on when to go without it interfering with the rest of our plans. However, we did manage to go twice in the 2 days. The later check out of 11am as standard was very helpful as well!"
