The best area to stay in Doue is within Doue-la-Fontaine itself, particularly around the town centre or just on its outskirts.

Doue-la-Fontaine is the main town on Île, known for its unique troglodyte dwellings and rose gardens. The town centre is relatively compact, with the Place Jean Bégault serving as a central point, surrounded by local shops, restaurants, and the entrance to several of the troglodyte sites. It's easy to navigate on foot, allowing you to explore the local independent shops and cafes.

For couples looking for a relaxed and distinctive experience, staying near the town centre is ideal. You'll be within walking distance of the Bioparc de Doué la Fontaine, a unique zoo set within old troglodyte caves, as well as the 'Chemin de la Rose' gardens. Many guesthouses and smaller hotels in this area offer a personal touch, some even incorporating elements of the local cave dwellings into their design.

Families will find that properties slightly outside the immediate town centre, but still within a short drive, offer more space and amenities. These often include larger gardens or even pools, providing a nice base for exploring the region.

The best time to visit Doué-la-Fontaine is during the spring and early autumn months, specifically from April to June and September to October.

These periods offer the most pleasant weather, with comfortable temperatures ideal for exploring the town's outdoor attractions without the intense heat of summer or the chill of winter. You'll find the gardens and landscapes at their most beautiful, making it superb for those who enjoy leisurely strolls and outdoor photography.

Families travelling with children will particularly appreciate the mild weather during these months, as it's superb for visiting the Doué-la-Fontaine Biopark or exploring the troglodyte dwellings.
