The best area to stay in Chidham is directly within the village of Chidham itself, particularly around Chidham Lane and Cobnor Road, or in the nearby hamlet of Cobnor.

Chidham village offers a peaceful, rural setting, characterised by traditional English cottages, winding country lanes, and views of Chichester Harbour. It's a small, spread-out community without a bustling high street, but it provides a genuine escape to the countryside. The local pub, The Old House at Home, is a central point for a meal or a drink.

Couples looking for a tranquil retreat will find Chidham ideal. The focus here is on quiet walks, enjoying the natural beauty of the harbour, and relaxing in a serene environment. There are opportunities for kayaking or paddleboarding from the shoreline, superb for a calm afternoon together.

For families, staying closer to Cobnor Point offers direct access to the water and the Cobnor Activities Centre, which provides various outdoor pursuits like sailing and kayaking for all ages.

The best time to visit Chidham is generally during the spring (April to June) and autumn (September to October) months, when the weather is pleasant and the area is less crowded.

Spring offers milder temperatures and the countryside is in full bloom, making it ideal for coastal walks and exploring the local nature reserves. You'll find many footpaths around Cobnor Point and along the shoreline of Chichester Harbour that are particularly enjoyable at this time.

Autumn also provides comfortable weather, with cooler temperatures superb for outdoor activities without the summer heat. The changing colours of the leaves add to the natural beauty, and it's a great time for birdwatching as migratory birds pass through the harbour.

While summer (July and August) can be lovely with warmer weather, it's also the busiest period, especially with families visiting the coast.
