Cheap flights to Florence

Tuscany is famed for its wine, food and fine art. At the heart of this trinity of culture lies the historic city of Florence.

Situated on the banks of the River Arno, Florence is widely recognised as the birthplace of the Italian Renaissance. In addition to fine art and striking architecture, you’ll find a blend of fashion, romance and the finest cuisine on offer in Italy.

When to book cheap flights to Florence?

Florence is a small city, characterised by its narrow, cobbled streets and sprawling piazzas. While this makes for atmospheric surrounds, it also means the city can be rather congested with international tourists during the summer months. The heat can also be rather stifling at this time of year.

For cheap flights – and a bit of elbow room – the best time to visit Florence from the UK is late winter and early spring, when the weather is not too cold, yet the footfall is lower.

Florence is a dream to explore on foot, with fabulous museums such as the Uffizi and the Palatine Gallery all within easy walking distance of each other.

Unless you’re hoping to explore the nearby countryside, you shouldn’t need to use any public transport during your visit.

If you’re staying on the outskirts of the city or are looking to explore further afield, Florence has an excellent bus network with regular routes running to and from nearby towns and villages.

The city also has an efficient tram system, connecting Florence’s main station at Santa Maria Novella with the nearby suburb of Scandicci.

Must-sees in Florence

Although it a small city, Florence definitely deserves its big reputation. Its rich heritage is apparent in every passageway, ancient arch and terracotta rooftop.

Those keen to spot a famous artwork or two should start their tour at the Uffizi, a famous gallery boasting the greatest collection of Renaissance art in the world.

Be sure to make time for Florence’s iconic red-tiled Duomo, too. This grandiose building took over two centuries to complete and the views from the top are unrivalled from anywhere in the city.

Hassle free

Good idea Ryanair staff were tagging bags to go in the hold after security to save time later. Pisa airport was extremely busy, a bit chaotic as it wasn't clear that the long queue which snaked around the building was the only check in for everyone. They should have used signs and had staff directing.

... I cannot believe BA sell.food on a short flight. Surely a free cup of tea or coffee or even s.bottle of water won't break the bank?
