Rather disappointing and did not live up to the photos. Hotel is advertised as with parking, but this is simply not true. The parking in Carcassonne can only be described as a nightmare and a long drive round trying to find a space (not at the hotel as there are non available) is a regular occurrence. Room wasn't particularly clean and there is next to no storage space, meaning living out of a suitcase. Staff are very friendly, but this is the only real plus.

Madame on the reception was very welcoming. Happy to help with any issues. Informative. Housekeeping was excellent. Wouldn’t hesitate to stay again. Also easy access to Carcassonne town & City Medieval. Bus stop just outside which was easy to use. 😀

Very close to the centre of Carcassonne. Breakfast was offered but we didn’t take it up. The lady on reception was very helpful when we needed to ask questions and boon a taxi.

Nice hotel in a good area with decent sized rooms and friendly staff. However, the rooms don't have air conditioning (just a fan) which, given the summer heat made it impossible to sleep - it was absolutely boiling in the room. I wouldn't stay here again during the summer, but would be fine in winter.

A great deal
This well-located (and easy to find from the train station) modest hotel was the best deal of a lengthy trip. I found that Carcassonne merited a quiet stay for the "lower town" as well as its more famous part up the hill (which perhaps can't live up to too high expectations). The hotel is very close to the very helpful tourist info centre and a 24 hour grocery store. A lack of recent remodelling was no concern to me; it was clean and comfortable and staff were pleasant and helpful. I would absolutely stay here again.

Great location
Located next to Gambetta square, 5 min walk to the town's square Place Carnot, 10 min walk to train station and Canal de Midi, 15 min walk to the castle and it's many bars, shops and restaurants. The room is clean and spacious, with comfortable bed, but somewhat tired looking bathroom, optional breakfast available, overall good value for money, as even though it is just two star hotel, it makes up for it's location and good base for your weekend away

Stayed at the Au Royal Hotel in Carcassone off-season in chilly, drizzly November weather and were very pleased and comfortable. My sister and I requested separate beds and actually got two rooms ensuite, each with its own bathroom : toilet & shower, and a door that closed between so we could each stay up late or get up early without disturbing the other. This small hotel has good amenities - wifi, breakfast, heat, reading lights over the beds, but no elevator. It is located in the main city (La Bastide) an easy walk from the train station and the Canal du Midi, and a longer, but very scenic,walk over the old bridge to La Cite - the medieval walled town on the hill. Au Royal is located on a tree-lined boulevard, among the downtown restaurants and shopping, just up the street from Square Gambetta, and the Musee des Beaux Arts.

Near the main shopping/restaurant and also on the way to the Cite. But no A/C and a creaky ceiling fan. An old hotel with clean sheets. Very tight bathroom/room. We ended up with a suite that had 2 bathrooms for my family of 3. That was nice.

Friendly hotel
Friendly hotel, close to the centre of town to walk and sight see. Rooms are a bit dated and shabby with no air conditioning and it was a hot night that we stayed there. Overall, it was fine for the 1 night that we stayed there as part of our travels.

Convenient stopover
The hotel is nicely located. Halfway between the town and castle. The room was clean and ready when we arrived. The room was typical budget family room and worked very well for the four of us as a one night stop over To see the wonderful walled town.

Nice and simple hotel, very handily located.
Nice and simple hotel, very handily located. It is on the edge of the main city centre, just a 5 minute, if that, walk into the central square. However, it is also convenient for getting into the Cite (the old town inside the castle). Just a walk down to the pedestrian bridge and over! While you are technically in neither, you are handily based for both. The room was clean and tidy and the staff where helpful getting me the rugby ground and a bike hire and a simple breakfast is available if you are in a hurry one morning.

This was a pleasant surprise. The room was large and comfortable. The ceiling fan was a welcome addition, allowing us to close the window so we could sleep without ear plugs. The hotel sent us a map with their confirmation email; which was very useful. The hotel manager was pleasant and welcoming. The hotel is just across the boulevard from the old lower town, and not a long walk from the castle across the river. If you park on the street in front of the hotel, park on the side without the trees; there are birds up there.

Kind of far and not that clean
First, the staff was very friendly. The beds and sleeping rooms were clean, but the bathrooms could use some work. Our shower door had mold all over it. Also, it's about a 20 minute walk to the actual entrance of Carcassonne (the hotel is sort of behind and across the river). Other than the two set-backs, it's adequate for a place to sleep and local restaurants are nearby as well.

Would go again if we go to Carcassonne again
No curtains but if you look there is a handle on the right of the window you can use to lower an external blind. This also blocks out traffic noise. Clean and simple decor. Nice people on the desk. Short walk to all the places you want to see. Had breakfast once and it was ok.

It's ok.
The staff are lovely and the bedding was immaculate, but that's about the only good thing. The road outside is on the go all night long making a decent sleep pretty tough unless you take ear plugs. The main issue I had was the lack of any decent fire escape other than the one staircase in the building. I was on the top floor and could see no means of escape. Other than that it was ok, but I wouldn't stay there again.

Budget hotel. Good location
This is a basic hotel but covered all the necessities we needed. Personal preference made the bed mattress too hard for comfort but the bedding was impeccably clean. Only having a printed net curtain up over a busy road could be improved for privacy. The location was great just 10mins from the medieval cite and 10mins from the train station. However being on a main road made for a noisy room with the window open as no air con. On the whole you need to remember that you are paying for a basic hotel and this hotel does deliver on the basics and is clean. Whilst I would not stay here again because of the bed being too hard for me I would recommend to any budget traveller.

This was my first visit to France and i was made to feel very welcome by the hotel receptionist, I was left to my own devises and not interrupted which made the experience of my first visit very enjoyable.

Autumn Carcassone trip
Many positives for this hotel including cheap as chips, very central, ten minutes walk in each direction to the station and the medieval city, a short walk to the main shopping area. Our room was very clean and not noisy as we were at the rear. The facilities are very 'french' - basic, small and unfussy. The central heating was welcome in the chilly mornings and evenings. Carcassone is in the hills and can also be very windy. The staff of one was really cheerful and helpful. We opted for breakfast which is competitive with nearby bars and cafes at 6 euros for bread croissants jam cereal coffee cheese yogurt. The bread is very fresh. The bathroom had a washbasin, shower and bidet, all very small but functional and clean. We spoke to people who had spent a lot more per night at local hotels and decided that this one, whilst far from lavish, gives really good value for money and is ideally located

Good value for money hotel
Stayed here for two nights as part of a flying trip around France. First glance at the hotel slightly adjoining offputting as the building next door had been knocked down, but the hotel itself was fine, clean and friendly receptionist. My room was on the top floor (no lift), so kept fit walking up the stairs! Overall is a simple place, good Wifi, good value, breakfast was cheap, no complaints at all.
