Side door broken, friends could not get in lobby, would not let me change reservation. Would definitely stay at Hampton or giant city lodge next time. Poor management communication

We apologize about the side door. Our front desk did explain that we were unable to modify your reservation and also this communication was shared with you by management. It was also explained to you that our front door is locked 24/7. There is a phone located inside the front door and guests or visitors of guests can call the front desk so we can let you in or your visitors in. I always stay here when in Carbondale . It is near the train station and downtown Carbondale. The staff is very helpful and the hotel is exceptionally clean.

We intentionally booked this trip near family and picked this hotel for the pool. I understand that things happen . However when we arrived the pool was broken and no one mentioned it. We asked for a refund for our second night and wanted to go to a different hotel so our two young kids could swim since they have been looking forward to it and that was the point of the hotel. They refused and said they opened the pool back up. My husband took them to the pool and it was ice cold , maybe 60 degrees. The girls were miserable. The room itself was okay and pretty clean. However customer service was disappointing. They were not friendly, not accommodating and did not go out of their way to help. My 2 year old spilled hot coffee on her and it was not their fault , however the workers just sat and watched as we rushed to find our own first aid kit and ice and did not check in or offer to help. Besides not getting to swim or switch hotels , our room smelled strongly of marijuana . My daughter kept asking why it smelled like skunk . Very disappointed, what was supposed to be a fun family trip with swimming , turned out to be a bad experience. I would not recommend this hotel for a family stay.

We have brought your concerns about our pool being broken and also the strong smells you had in your room to the attention of housekeeping and management. As for the actions of our staff in regards to the hot coffee we are sorry to hear that our workers just sat and watched. Rest assured that we have addressed this with all of staff and have taken corrective measures to insure something like this doesn’t happen again. We again want to thank you for your review.

Amtrak adjacent
Home2Suites is just across the street from the Carbondale Amtrak station. So it's very convenient for train travel. The breakfast is outstanding and the coffee is good. The room was so spacious that it was almost like having two rooms.

Breakfast was excellent, and the staff was friendly and attentive. The room we stayed in had thin carpet with not much padding and the sounds of people walking on other floors echoed. The bathroom door, a pocket door, did not lock and slid back into the wall, providing no privacy, and the bathroom fan did not work. Also, the Amtrack station across the street has an activity at 11 pm, 2 am, and 6 am which much tooting. No fault can be found with the hotel for the adjacent bar, which had a loud outdoor music performance, until 11:30 pm

Fantastic property, clean and friendly. Walking distance to the pool for our swim meet and plenty of dining choices in the area. Being a college town, there are a variety of bars and adult entertainment places too which lead to a seedier clientele on the streets after dark but the hotel is maintained and secure with attentive staff and brightly lit outside areas. We will be back!

Not as great as it looks
I'll start with the Negatives. Had I known about the LOUD live music that went on until 2AM along with lousy soundproofing, I probably would've stayed elsewhere. Though the building was pretty, it seems like it was built cheap/with little to no soundproofing. The bed was surprisingly uncomfortable. Hilton made the bizarre choice to use pocket doors for the bathrooms. We were checked into 300 upon arrival. When we got up to the room, I noticed the bathroom doors wouldn't close or latch. When I went to the front desk to see about getting a room with functional bathroom doors, she moved us to 400 and I ran into a friend on my way back up that was also staying here and his doors didn't work either. Room 400 was no different, but there wasn't another room to try, so I grabbed my tools out of the car to get the doors to at least close. I don't think wanting a shred of privacy for the bathrooms is too much to ask...now I have a few small complaints. Hole in the wall in 300, key issues, choppy TV signal, no streaming options in a newer hotel, burnt out bulbs, damaged trim in rooms, elevator inspection several months expired, and the breakfast staff was rude. Now for some positives. The women working the front desk were great. The hotel and rooms were VERY clean and I think the price was fair for the size of the room. I remember when a hotel being a Hilton actually meant something. I would love some kind of a partial refund. We will not be staying here again.

Do not recommend
There is a bad smell once you enter the hotel and also in the room. I recommend to remove carpet from the room to keep it clean. One washer didn't work and the other one was used by another clinent and didn't remove their clothes and the staff did not take the initiative to remove the cloths. Breakfast was not healthy at all. The beds are queen size which is not good for couple. Paying over 150 dollars a night for 3 nights is outrageous with this kind of hotel. We will not stay their again.

A few issues
Overall good. A few issues: 1. We could not find parking spot last night when we came back about 10:30pm. We had to park on the parking lot of the church. 2. The toilet has water problem. Refil water does not work. 3. The note in the room says cleaning every other day but there was no cleaning while we stayed 4 days. 4. At least 3 lights in the room do not work.

This was the worst night sleep I’ve ever had in a hotel and needing a good night sleep for my sons early baseball game didn’t happen, very noisy and lady at front desk said the noise should be gone by midnight and it was still going on at 3:30am

Over all it was a pretty nice place to stay. Besides just about everyone at the front desk having an attitude like they hated their job and us having to replace the paper towels in the room because it wasn’t done before we got there, I’d stay again if need be.

The reason we stayed here was very close access to the Amtrak station. The hotel is allowing us to park in their fenced parking lot while we are gone. Our room was extremely nice and clean with a full size refrigerator, microwave, and dishwasher. It is like an apartment. We have already booked for another trip.
