Charging residents for parking is a disgrace!

Posted 01-Jan-2017
Pros: Lunch in the bar was really nice - girls had superfood salad with Salmon, the boys had fish and chips Spa staff were really nice and helpful
Cons: Car Parking charges are disgusting. I have never had to pay to park in a hotel in which I am staying. Attitude of receptionist.
Location: The location was pretty good and Cambridge is lovely! Will definitely visit the city again but will NOT be using this hotel when I do.
A group of us stayed here in October for a birthday. The parking facilities were terrible - we drove around a number of times trying to find a space, parking in a disabled bay so we could go in and find out where we could park. We were TOLD that we would get a ticket if we left the car in the disabled bay without a badge so we drove around again and ended up parking half in a bush - thank goodness we only took 1 car! When we went to check in we were TOLD we had to pay to park at the hotel. We explained we were staying over night but were told that we still had to pay. We were not happy with this and mentioned in the conversation that we were playing golf and using the spa - we were then told that because we were using the facilities we didn't have to pay. Hallmark has outsourced the parking at ALL of their hotels. How can this company justify charging overnight residents for parking but not those using their facilities??? Seems the wrong way round to me. Parking charges were not clear on the website. If they had been, I would have chosen another hotel as I do not agree with this approach. Receptionist was quite rude and my partner heard her arguing with another customer about parking. She was getting some stick about the parking charges but should be able to handle this in her line of work. The pool area was very dated and not very clean (hair/dirt poolside and in shower you are supposed to use before you get in the pool - I didn't use) Rooms were nice and were clean

Families beware!!!!

Posted 28-Nov-2016
Cons: Move the family room
DO NOT STAY AT THIS HOTEL AT THE WEEKEND IF YOU HAVE CHILDREN!! The noise was terrible with shrieking groups of woman and rowdy man(hen and stag nights) FAMILY room situated above the entrance. The noise from these groups leaving the hotel was horrendous. Finally managed to get to sleep we then had a rude awakening when they returned at 4.30am much the worse for wear using very colourful language.

Had a great night all to tell staff worked hard to make things the best they could. Room was great only downside was having to pay extra for the car park and no pool spa as refurbishing

Convenient business hotel

Posted 20-Nov-2016 on Hotels
Parking is NOT free at this hotel, despite anything you may have expected / been told by Hotels.com. Fortunately, the person who checked me in was so bored with arguing about this problem with guests that he awarded me free parking anyway.

Good, but not excellent

Posted 19-Nov-2016
I booked a night with my partner in this hotel to celebrate our anniversary. I wanted something special, even if I had to spend a little more money. One of the reasons I booked this hotel was the spa, but after I had booked I found that itbwas being refurbished, which was a bit of a letdown. The staff was very nice and helpful, and the facilities looked clean. The room was alright. It was spacious, with a good temperature and a big bed. We expected a bit more from the bathroom, which looked a bit decayed. There was no complimentary toothpaste or bar of soap, something that you would expect from a 4 stara hotel. Regarding the food, we were quite disappointed again. We had dinner at the hotel's restaurant. Soup of the day and mushroom raviolis for her; chicken skewers and linguini bolognese for me. Everything was good, but nothing that I hadn't tasted before. However, the white wine was excellent. Same thing happened with the breakfast: we expected a continental breakfast, but the choice was reduced to English breakfast (too greasy for us), pastries, toasts and fruits. Everything was good, but we missed having more options. In summary, this hotel is good, but it could be improved in different ways.

Nice rooms

Posted 13-Nov-2016 on Hotels
Staff really went out of their way to help us with our stay and the limitations of a health condition. The bathrooms are small and could use updating, but the rooms are spacious and very nice.

Doesn't reflect what pictures show...

Posted 12-Nov-2016 on Hotels
Hotel looks good in pictures, but is not in reality. Pool was closed for refurb, they ran out of bottled water, no bath in room - offered one but asked to pay extra. Windows don't close fully, no AC only radiator which when left on you wake up needing a drink, really inconvenient. Restaurant food was below acceptable standards and costly, closest restaurant are a twenty minute drive in to Cambridge else a fish and chip shop and a Tesco available. Bar area was full of off duty staff who were getting drunk and working staff seemed miserable. Breakfast staff were pleasant, and food is okay. Slightly annoying that there is distinction between serving spoons so hash browns and back pudding and bacon used. Needs a one way flow for vegetarians!!! Beds are comfy, and decent tv. Toilets are tiny, though shower hasn't got the power you need in the morning. Parking is difficult. Stayed for 5nights. Would not revisit.

very expensive for what they offer

Posted 11-Nov-2016
Pros: the size of our Executive room
Cons: a lot of things
Location: Nothing around it, but it's not a far ride to the center of Cambridge city
Nobody told us that the pool was closed. The breakfast was expensive at £12 per adult and £5 per child and the breakfast was not good at all. The water pressure in the shower was very weak and the tub was blocked a bit so the water wouldn't go down the drain quickly.
