Famous for its sensational surf, the popular coastal resort of Bundoran is a great holiday destination for families looking for somewhere with lots to see and do and a wide range of high quality, affordable accommodation.
Set in the south of County Donegal, it has two lovely beaches and all the traditional seaside attractions. In the summer there is a carnival atmosphere and the resort’s numerous hotels, guesthouses, bed and breakfasts and hostels have a big crowd to cater for.
Bundoran overlooks beautiful Donegal Bay and many of the resort’s more luxurious hotels enjoy panoramic views of the coast. You’ll find hotels with golf courses, fitness and leisure facilities and bars and restaurants enjoying views of the Atlantic. Lots of accommodation to suit all budgets is on offer in the centre of town, with much of it located close to the beach.
Explore from Your Hotel
Bundoran was once a traditional holiday destination for wealthier visitors from Northern Ireland and, as a result, parts of it are more reminiscent of an English seaside resort than an Irish one. In 2012, National Geographic magazine listed it as one of the world’s top 20 surf towns.
It is great to explore on foot during the summer months, offering numerous coastal walks that provide an opportunity to take in the stunning views that appear from around almost every corner.
As well as surfers, Bundoran also attracts golfers from far and wide. They are drawn to the town by a renowned 18 hole course built on the historic site of the Great Northern Railway Company. Old railway sleepers can be found dotted around the course, which enjoys some breathtaking views of the Atlantic.
Beaches Close to Your Hotel
County Donegal makes up a key part of the world-famous Wild Atlantic Way, an incredible 1,500-mile driving route running alongside Ireland’s western seaboard. Join at any point and you’ll be guaranteed to encounter scenery and coastal landscapes that will live in your memory forever.
When it comes to beaches you are truly spoilt for choice. Bundoran has its own fine stretches of sand but if you want to go a little further afield, head for Rossnowlagh. Stretching for almost two miles, its beautiful Blue Flag beach is a haven for families, surfers, kitesurfers and walkers all year round. It’s the perfect place to try surfing for the first time or to hone your skills if they are a bit rusty. Every October it hosts the Rossnowlagh Intercounty Surf Contest, one of the most sociable events in Ireland’s watersports calendar.
For something a little more sedate pay a visit to Belleek, famous all over the world for the beautiful pieces of Parian china made at its pottery works.
Spoilt for Hotel Choices
With a fabulous selection of hotels, guesthouses, bed and breakfasts and holiday homes - many offering views of Ireland’s spectacular west coast - Bundoran has something for everyone when it comes to finding a place to stay.
