The Belgian capital of Brussels is known for many things. Not only is it the administrative centre for Europe and an important business hub, it’s also renowned around the world for its art, culture and lively café scene. Best of all, it boasts a fantastic selection of hotels.
For travellers working in the city, there are hotels in conference centres and close to the major transport hubs. For backpackers on a budget, there are a variety of hostels and affordable inns. And for those seeking a taste of the high life, there are the city’s luxury five-star hotels.
The city of Brussels is divided into 19 districts, or “communes”. The main district is known simply as Brussels and its centre is home to the city’s most famous attractions. Find a hotel here and you’ll be in the centre of the action, close to La Grand Place, the Magritte Museum and the 15th-century Notre Dame de Sablon church.
For a different experience, head out of the centre and stay in arty Ixelles, bohemian Saint-Gilles, or pretty Uccles. The latter being known for its expansive green spaces and quiet pace of life. Wherever you find your dream hotel, you’ll be able to use the city’s excellent public transport links to get around.
If you’re visiting the city for work, you’ll find that there are a numerous accommodation options available. Plenty of hotels are situated near to the airport, perfect for short stays and connections on to other destinations. Alternatively, book accommodation in the Northern Quarter, Brussels’s busiest business district, and the Leopold Quarter, a hub for European political institutions.
Brussels also boasts a good selection of apartment-style accommodation. This is the ideal option if you’re in the city for a long period and desire the convenience of your own kitchen and living space.
There’s plenty to keep you busy in Brussels. So if you’re only in the city for a short period or if you’d prefer not to travel around during your stay, book accommodation close to the biggest attractions.
Find a hotel near the Grand Place, a vast 14th century city square, and you will be within walking distance of the Ancienne Belgique Concert Hall, the museum and gallery district of Mont des Arts, and the Brussels Parliament building. You’ll also be surrounded by all manner of shops, cinemas, restaurants and bars.
Though the heart of Brussels is a hive of activity and attractions, there’s also plenty to see and do when you venture away from the centre. In Anderlecht, you’ll find the RSCA Constant Vanden Stock football stadium, and in Koekelberg, the spectacular National Basilica of the Sacred Heart. At the southeastern tip of the Brussels district, the Bois de la Cambre, a large public park dating back to 1861. Excellent hotels surround all of these fantastic attractions.
