"The staff were very friendly and helpful. Good spa facilities which were clean. The room was well set out and clean, although it felt a little tired! Breakfast was good, all fresh and scrambled and poached eggs cooked to order. All in all a good stay."

"We were welcomed by the staff and shown to our room, which was spacious, clean, warm and quiet. The bed was large and comfortable with good quality pillows.
The shower room was large, clean and modern.
It was so reasonably priced, we expected a lot less!"

"Booked a “best estuary” view room and it did not disappoint, view was amazing and we had a lovely large balcony. We had fantastic weather for October so we made the most of this beautiful location. Hotel staff were super helpful, breakfast was good and we also used the Spa which was a nice bonus. All in all would definitely return, location of this hotel is perfect for winderful views and short walking distance to all that Salcombe has to offer."

One of the prettiest views anywhere in England from the balcony overlooking the estuary. Rooms are well decorated, spacious and have free gin. What’s not to like?

Have just enjoyed a 3 night stay with a friend. Beautiful hotel in unique location in quiet South Sands beachy cove. Lots of ways to get to Salcombe town centre either walking (a bit hilly), hotel shuttle car or water ferry. Rooms have stunning decor and bathrooms are very well appointed. Service throughout the hotel is excellent and very friendly. Enjoyed both breakfast and dinner in the hotel restaurant. Good value & again great service throughout but with particular mention of lovely service...

Beautiful old Elizabethan mansion that presents immaculately and gives you a real sense of history. Fantastic service - nothing is too much for all the staff. I will be returning.

The room was very comfortable, the staff were excellent. We loved the ambience and the food
There was nothing we disliked except the proximity of the village church which insisted on striking every quarter hour day and night. It was an unusually warm night in October so we had the window open so I would advise using earplugs if the window is open.

We chose this hotel as it was in the centre of lovely golf course far away from the hustle and bustle of a noisy seaside town.It was ideally situated enabling us to visit Datmouth,Torquay,Paington and many other places of interest.
It was then nice to return to the hotel to use the leisure facilities and then enjoy a nice evening meal.

The rooms were beautifully clean, comfortable and cosy. The staff were so so friendly, it was my first solo trip and they made me feel so comfortable and safe. From the welcome team, the cleaning staff and the restaurant staff I only ever felt looked after and cared for. I will definitely be staying again in the future.

The whole hotel is only around a year old and everything still seems like it's brand new. The breakfast was superb, the room was really nice and there's excellent on site parking in the two level underground carpark too.
Will definitely be going back - Thanks.

The best area to stay in Brownston is the City Centre, particularly around the historic Market Square.
This neighbourhood is the heart of Brownston, offering a blend of historic architecture and modern amenities. Market Square, with its impressive Clock Tower, is a central meeting point, and the surrounding streets, like High Street and King Street, are lined with a variety of shops, restaurants, and traditional pubs. Couples often find the City Centre ideal due to its convenient access to cultural attractions and dining options. The wide selection of high-quality restaurants makes it great for a relaxed dinner after a day of exploring.
For solo travellers, the City Centre provides a great base with excellent public transport links to other parts of Brownston and beyond. The main train station is just a ten-minute walk from Market Square, making day trips straightforward.
When is the best time to go to Brownston?
The best time to go to Brownston is during the late spring (May-June) and early autumn (September-October) when the weather is pleasant and the crowds are generally smaller.
May and June offer milder temperatures, ideal for exploring Brownston's numerous parks and gardens, such as the renowned Royal Botanical Gardens on the outskirts of the city. You'll find the city's historic sites, like Brownston Castle, less crowded, making for a more relaxed visit. This period is particularly good for couples who enjoy leisurely strolls and outdoor activities without the peak summer rush.
September and October also provide comfortable weather, often with crisp, sunny days superb for sightseeing. The autumn foliage around the River Browne offers beautiful scenery, especially for boat tours.
