Average hotel, good location

Posted 09-Dec-2017
The building is beautiful on the outside however the rooms are quite tired and need updating. The staff were very friendly and helpful and he breakfast wasn’t bad for £5. The location was also good.

Any port in a storm

Posted 08-Dec-2017
This hotel has loads of potential. It’s a great historic building with lots of interesting features. But it is in a pretty terrible condition, with dirty rooms, unloved communal areas and a general sense of being down at heel. It’s ok if you need somewhere to stay and it’s the only place you can find, but it’s not somewhere you would choose if you have options. Whoever owns the hotel desperately needs to spend some money on the place, to refurbish it and make it feel loved, rather than forgotten and increasingly deralict.

Pros: The staff
Cons: The decor of the rooms a little dated and could do with a freshen up.
Easy to get to and nice breakfast, all the staff are extremely helpful and polite.

Window latch busted open during cold night

Posted 02-Dec-2017
Me and a partner stayed, thought it looked like an average stay. We got there, the hotel staff seemed pleasant enough. We entered the room and found it to be slightly chilly, I checked the radiators but the nobs had been removed. No biggie, we set up and chilled out for a bit before heading out, we came back around 10 and went to bed to chill because we were a bit tired. The room seemed strangely cold as we walked in, for a place which was supposed to be hospitable, this was not okay - I found that the latch on the window was damaged and the window was unable to close properly letting the cold chill in. I went down and spoke to the receptionist and she was lovely, she apologised and said that she could change our rooms but we had unpacked so I was wondering if we could just put the heater on full to balance the temperature out. She said we could borrow a portable radiator and the manager would bring it up. We waited an hour for the portable radiator to come, we rang up to check in intervals, 'it will be five minutes' etc. Eventually it came with a smile, whatever. The radiator did little to help the cold night. I forgot to mention my partner had a bit of a cold and this night made it a lot worse. He next day, I explained this to the hotel receptionist who listened and explained that it was unfortunate what had happened. He seemed a little smarmy and false. We received no potential of compensation and we left worse off than when we had arrived.

Really nice hotel not so far from the city

Posted 18-Nov-2017
Everything was great, from the staff ready to help for everything (big shout out for the blonde lady at reception!) to the room well above average for the category. Definitely gonna come back on the next trip!

ideal for visiting our daughter who lives nearby.

Posted 18-Nov-2017
Pros: Proximity to my daughters home.
Cons: Needs a maintenance person who regularly inspects the rooms. The breakfast which we had last time we stayed was awful.
Disappointed in the carpet in the room which is badly stained and needs replacing. Tends to detract from the experience. The bottom sheet on the bed was not wide enough so my wife ended up sleeping on the mattress. Bathroom sink needs plunging as it takes an age for water to go down.
