Brighton Marina Malmaison

Posted 10-Sep-2017
A lovely hotel with great views of the marina. The room was very funky and modern,my 12yr old loved it. Comfy bed, good sized tv,shower room nice, hairdryer and iron in room. Only small gripe was with two of us staying, only one of some of the refreshments were provided i.e one biscuit, one hot choc! We were given a door hanger where we could request breakfast and order additional milk. We did order additional milk for 8a.m but it didn't happen. So no morning cup of tea before we checked out. All in all, hitel was very nice and i woukd stay again.

Lovely venue, lovely hotel - love the details of the nice shampoo and conditioner. Lovely big bath sheets. Really comfy bed. Right on the marina so lots of places to eat. Very stylish, modern hotel. I'd stay again.

Used to be better

Posted 21-Aug-2017
Pros: Good location, parking.
Cons: A few things, see above.
Location: Good location, lots of eateries nearby.
We stayed here when it was the Seattle, so were looking forward to it. We arrived at Reception which was unstaffed, I had a look around but couldn't find anyone. After a while the phone rang and a member of staff came rushing out of the back office to answer it ignoring us in the process. Not great. The hotel did heed my request for an upper floor room which was good, the room was ok but small, style over substance and comfort. Somewhat bizarrely, it had a dog bed and water bowl by the patio doors which we most certainly never ordered. It was quiet enough until 8am when a workman started drilling outside our patio doors at 8am, fortunately we needed to be up and out reasonably early. At breakfast it took a long while for anyone to notice us and take an order, by the time my cooked breakfast finally appeared, about half an hour, the toast was cold so we asked for more. When it arrived it wasn't toast, it was still bread, when we sent it back we could hear comments being made about us. Incidentally they can't cook bacon, the fat wasn't rendered in the slightest, but since I actually wanted to finish my breakfast that morning I never bothered to say anything. So overall not awful but certainly not what it used to be, shame.

Overlooks Brighton Marina

Posted 21-Aug-2017
We like the Malmaison chain but our experience here was not good. The rooms are tiny and with two of us there was not much room to move. Almost non existent hanging space in a cupboard also containing mini fridge, ironing board and tea tray. On the first day we went out at 1030 and returned at 4.00 but neither our room nor our daughter's next door had been serviced. Housekeeping eventually arrived and bathroom was cleaned but we declined the bedroom on the basis there wasn't room for us and the cleaner and the hoover. Our daughter declined altogether. Later it was time for a drink before dinner. We usually love the Malmaison bar but waited 35 minutes for three drinks in a bar half full and not particularly busy. Continental breakfast in the room was good if only the trays hadn't sat there festering all day and the cooked breakfast the final morning was good. I expressed my disappointment with the general service on checkout but I fear it fell on deaf ears which for two nights that exceeds £1000 was not good enough.

Watch out for hidden room costs

Posted 05-Aug-2017
Spoilt by having to pay another £180 for pull out beds for the children on arrival after having paid yourselves already for the room in advance- or so we thought. Make sure you read Expedia small print when you book! The air con wasn't sufficient for the room so left us uncomfortably warm. The children found the pullout beds very lumpy and uncomfortable to sleep on. On the plus side the room was stylish and clean and breakfast was good quality and only £2 extra to upgrade from continental to cooked.

Not for me

Posted 25-Jul-2017
Extremely difficult hotel to find with parking quite some distance away. Room was adequate but shared terrace area right outside the room meant that curtains had to be permanently closed to stop people looking into the room. Air conditioning on a timer so would not stay on for more than 1hour.

VERY MODERN HOTEL

Posted 22-Jul-2017
Pros: Location and free parking although it is free to everyone even though the signs in the car park say different.
Cons: The bed and storage
Location: Plenty of places to eat
Stayed a few years ago and paid extra this time for a room overlooking Marina which was much better than looking at a roof. Very modern and had a safe which is usually missing in UK hotels. Great shower. Unfortunately the bed had not been replaced when the room was refurbished and although initially it looked very comfortable the mattress was extremely lumpy with dips where bodies had been. So did not sleep that well. Also very little storage, a bit of hanging rail and everything else on view so not very practical. Nice TV on the wall at foot of bed. We stay there because of the free parking which is very convenient as parking in Brighton seems expensive and limited at a lot of hotels or you have to pay extra. Only had continental breakfast which was included and there was plenty of everything.

Negotiating the Hotel for access .

Posted 17-Jul-2017
Pros: available
Cons: re think the access to the hotel
Location: n/a
Difficult to find the hotel late at night. Carry luggage for 500m from the public (free) car park through the maze to get to the hotel, this would be very challenging for elderly/less abled/young families. Room size small, 2* size!
