"First time at an Ibis and I was impressed. It is a new property which is always a good start, staff very helpful and friendly, quick check in, very comfortable bed, clean room and well appointed. The manager was also very accomodating as I needed to change room to include a sofa bed and was so helpful."

"rooms were really well appointed and had everything I needed including a Tassimo coffee machine, desk and microwave - great for working away. Food stops at 8pm which is normally when I order so made an effort to go at 7:25 and the bar staff looked harassed and disorganized and said it would be a 90 minute wait for food so I gave up, as it was supposed to have finished an hour before that. However I did have a drink and whilst I was there I watched the deputy manager step in, support his staff, clear the backlog, deal with complaints and then come and speak to me and got me the food I would have ordered. "Our recent stay was unfortunately marred by logistical issues and poor maintenance. What should have been a straightforward arrival turned into a nightmare; the main access road was closed, and GPS (Google Maps) repeatedly led us in circles for over an hour. While we appreciated the receptionist eventually meeting us nearby to guide us in, the start of the trip was incredibly stressful. ​The Room & Facilities ​The disappointments continued once we checked in: ​Maintenance Failure: We informed Reception that our bedroom window was faulty and would not close. Despite being promised it would be fixed while we were out, we returned at night to find it still wide open. We froze throughout the night and were forced to use towels to plug the large gap to keep the draft out. ​Bed Size: We were surprised to find a standard double bed. In most modern hotels—and certainly within the IHG portfolio—a King or Queen is the standard. ​Amenities: To top it off, there was no ice available in the hotel. ​The Silver Lining ​The only redeeming quality of the stay was the breakfast. It was very good with a nice variety of options, and the staff in the dining area were pleasant. ​Final Verdict ​Overall, this was a major letdown compared to our previous IHG experiences. Between the lack of follow-through on a basic maintenance request and the sub-par room features, we will not be booking this hotel again."

"Derby Mickleover Hotel has wonderful friendly, helpful and professional staff who offer a warm welcome and constant, friendly enthusiasm to enable one's stay to be a good experience. However their refreshing professionalism and warm manner, is marred by a hotel that has seen grander times. Everywhere, the hotel is looking a bit tired and is in definite need of some investment to its interior and facilities. I have stayed here frequently due to its location, convenience and lovely staff but these professionals deserve a hotel that is current in its fresh interiors and facilities. I have had to call for house keeping or maintenance to assist in rooms I have been booked into, due to malfunctioning facilities or because I have found unacceptable large areas of black mould growing on bathroom ceilings for example. I have stayed in a lot of this hotel's rooms and in all price ranges. It is disappointing to see and stay at such a hotel with enormous potential; when a lick of fresh paint or replacement of tired facilities or a more rigorous upkeep of rooms with investment, enabling staff to not only perform day to day house keeping but more deep cleaning. Proper investment to provide updating and thorough maintenance of the wider hotel picture and infrastructure, would once again allow this hotel to shine as a luxury hotel if character.
