Great location, Average Food

Posted 28-Jun-2016 on Hotels
We stayed at the Pineapple Beach way back in 1998 and thought it was time for a return. The beach location is the biggest selling point, with a beautiful white sandy beach and warm waters for a dip. The hotel has slipped a bit over the years. Whilst the staff are very friendly and the rooms nice and clean the place is let down is the food. I've not stayed at a place that does buffet meals for a long time so maybe that was the problem but none of the buffet food was particularly inspiring. It's not that is was terrible but I'd expect something better than average for the rates paid. Booking into the a la carte Pineapple Grill is worth doing to get something better, but that is only an option for evenings. One minor point, the hotel is listed as Adult only - this is not the case and there were a few children about. Not the end of the world by any means, but if you are expecting a small person free zone you may be disappointed.

Had a wonderful time at the Grand Pineapple . I visit the Island a few times a year and have had some terrible experiences in other hotels but this was far the best hotel I have stayed on the island . Have booked again for late October . Thank you again

Friendly and comfortable

Posted 10-Jun-2015
Pros: I like its low storey profile, its informality, and the beach
Cons: Replace the chipped plastic drinking ware. Ensure that the Sandals groups coming for training, and the day-members, behave appropriately.
Location: Resort is quite isolated and also quiet out of season. The boat trip round the island is a great way to see more of Antigua.
Grand Pineapple has an old-fashioned air about it which provides guests with a relaxing stay without having to worry about too much formality. As a woman on holiday alone, I was made to feel welcomed and included. People are friendly and my room was kept spotless. Food and drink is good and plentiful. The beach is fantastic, with a reef which invites exploration.

Fantastic views

The staff are incredibly friendly and would do anything to help you. The location right on the beach is fantastic, but you do need to taxi to get anywhere else, it is quite isolated. The hotel does do tours, although we organised all ours ourself. The room was comfortable, but a little dated, especially the bathroom. But they were clean. Its frustrating that you need to pay for wifi at this hotel. The food provided was of a good quality and they provided a good variation for the nights we were there. There is a small shop on the resort, but the opening hours are questionable, and with nothing else in walking distance make sure you keep well stocked with bottled water etc Enjoyed the ribs up at Miss Mary's shack. The views are quite spectacular Overall a very pleasant stay.

Great setting beware the car hire company

Posted 15-Mar-2015
Hotel and staff were great but beware Bigs car hire company on site. There is a £1000 excess even with CDW and our car was hit in the hotel car park and we were held responsible. The beach is fantastic and this is certainly the hotel to come to if you just want to chill out.

This resort is tired and run down, dirty, and should just be avoided. I had a beachfront room, which was ok - I had to ask for new pillows as quite frankly they were disgusting and I wasnt going to put my face near them. Also my toilet didn't flush, but they fixed this problem pretty quickly. Housekeeping were good, except a few times they didn't do my room until 4pm - REALLY! Also small things, like dirty sheets and glasses/plates etc were just left outside rooms for most of the day - it just didn't look good. The food is truly awful. It's just not worth going all inclusive for. Breakfast is basic but the Topaz restaurant at this time is FULL of birds, flies and stray cats! It takes forever to get a coffee, and when it does arrive it's usually cold. TheSnack Bar is filthy, the food there is just fast food at its worst and it's just falling apart. The other weird snack place up the hill just misses the spot. People have commented that it's 'so caribbean' ... Well these people have obviously not ventured out of the resort to see what the Caribbean is actually like. It's basically a dirty, messy shack that provides below average food. Dinner - bland stodgy rubbish. Anyway, just don't waste you're money on this place... Go to any of the other resorts on the island - trust me!

Perfect customer service

Posted 29-Jan-2015
Pros: Low rise, local style, pretty colours, not the usual accommodation factory. Lots of green space and the gardens are extremely well maintained.
Cons: A tidy up and bit of a repaint here and there. Shaver sockets in our bathroom would have been helpful.
Location: Beautiful beach, clearest blue sea I've ever seen, Trips we tried were excellent and relaxing.
We had a magical time, partly due to both the beautiful setting but, more significantly, the wonderful staff. Every single one, from the groundsman who swept the beach clean every morning to the manager of the wedding service, was helpful, friendly and brilliant. Nothing was ever too much trouble, even when we were maybe asking too much. Any time we asked a question, the answer comes with a smile and "you're welcome" when we remembered to say thank you. All the food was very high standard and the choice quite amazing. The local fish catch in particular was tasty and varied. We particularly liked the type of buildings, low rise in the local style and lovely, slightly old style, furniture. We were there for a family wedding and this was organised beautifully with a lovely local feel to the ceremony. We believe there are plans to redevelop the site to standardize the rooms and processes. We are concerned that you may lose the charm and relaxed friendly atmosphere. We are also concerned that the staff do not seem to be kept informed and don't know if their jobs are safe. On an island where tourism is the only stable employment, this is poor management, please treat these wonderful people better.
