Since the Roaring Twenties, Antibes has been a favourite holiday destination of the rich and famous. Over the years, Coco Chanel, Salvador Dali, Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton have tucked themselves away in the stylish French resort town between Cannes and Nice, on the promise of luxury hotels alongside powder sand beaches and the quaint 16th-century ramparts and cobblestone streets.
Antibes has a good number of luxury hotels, ranging from large chains to small intimate boutique hotels and even those housed in glamorous Art Nouveau villas. With Cannes just around the corner, A-listers from the world of film fill every luxury five-star hotel in Antibes in May, so when you settle in at the hotel bar or lay back on a lounger around the pool, you can pretty much guarantee you’re stepping in famous footsteps. With Hollywood names like Johnny Depp and Cate Blanchett, Tom Hanks and Penelope Cruz to cater for, it comes as no surprise that Antibes’ luxury hotels provide gourmet restaurants, swimming pools, spas and business centres, ensuring that luxury travellers have everything they need for an indulgent break.
The main attractions in Antibes are, of course, its beautiful beaches, running the length of the coast all the way to the Cap d’Antibes. Many of the luxury hotels here even have their own private beach, allowing for greater privacy and easy access to one of the French Riviera’s greatest natural assets. Those without a private beach can still enjoy that exclusivity, however, at one of the many private beach clubs in the neighboring resort of Juan-les-Pins.
After spending time relaxing on the beach, head into Antibes town centre for a spot of shopping and browsing its charming boutiques or hit one of the 12 golf courses nearby for a round or two. In the evenings, head down to the Port Vauban marina for al fresco dining then take a sunset cruise down the coast on a luxury yacht before returning to the luxury of your beachfront hotel.
