The best area to stay in Alangua is the Old Town (Casco Viejo), which is the historic heart of the city.

This neighbourhood is a delightful maze of narrow, pedestrian-friendly streets, lined with traditional Basque architecture. You'll find a wide selection of pintxo bars, local shops, and historic sites like the Alangua Cathedral. The main square, Plaza Mayor, is a popular spot for locals and visitors alike, often hosting events and offering outdoor seating for cafes.

Couples will find the Old Town particularly appealing for its romantic atmosphere and the convenience of having numerous dining options and cultural experiences right on their doorstep. Strolling hand-in-hand through its ancient streets, discovering hidden courtyards, and enjoying the evening buzz makes for a memorable trip.

For those seeking a more tranquil setting while still being close to the action, the Ensanche district, just south of the Old Town, is a good option. This area is characterised by wider avenues, green spaces like the Gardens of Alangua, and a more modern feel.

The best time to visit Alangua is during the late spring (May to June) and early autumn (September to October) when the weather is pleasant and the region is less crowded.

Late spring offers warm, sunny days superb for exploring the coastal paths and enjoying outdoor activities without the peak summer heat. The countryside is lush and green, and local festivals are beginning to take place. This period is ideal for couples looking for a romantic getaway with scenic walks and delightful dining experiences.

Early autumn provides similarly mild weather, with comfortable temperatures for sightseeing and hiking. The summer crowds have dispersed, making it a more peaceful time to experience Alangua's natural beauty and culinary scene.
