Great Tower, Skenfrith Castle This is a circular keep tower - similar ones can be found at Bronllys and Tretower. This was the main stronghold and residence. An external timber staircase would have led to the main chamber on the first floor and an internal stone spiral staircase led to the rooms above and also to the battlements. It was built around 1230.
