Pocket Guide: 4 Stars Hotels in Strasbourg
Travelling to Strasbourg
Strasbourg’s four-star hotels are ideal whether you want a romantic getaway on the French and German border or need to attend a conference at one of the EU institutions. Strasbourg’s international vibe has grown out of the cultures surrounding it and attracts visitors year round. Its warm summers bring its parks and gardens alive, while snowy winters are popular with skiers and snowboarders who head up to the slopes in the nearby Voges Mountains.
Staying in Strasbourg: Four-Star Hotels
Enjoy touches of luxury in Strasbourg’s four-star hotels, from chic wine bars to relaxed saunas. You could choose an apart-hotel with a pool to give you a little more freedom on an extended stay or enjoy the tradition that surrounds you at one of the four-star hotels in Petite France. Many welcome business guests and feature modern business centres and a dedicated concierge service.
The hotels’ bedrooms include thoughtful touches, such as premium bedding, complimentary newspapers and coffee makers. Guests can take advantage of 24-hour room service and dine while flicking through satellite channels. Free WiFi is also available.
Staying on Grande île
Right in the middle of Strasbourg, Grande île is a small island and the city’s historic centre. Here you can visit the city’s towering cathedral and its charming astronomical clock, and the grand 18th-century Rohan Palace, with its Museum of Fine Arts. For some achingly romantic strolls, head to the Petite Paris, a network of narrow streets lined with timber-framed buildings, and take a seat outside at one of the restaurants or bars overlooking the canal and enjoy a regional favourite, tarte flambee.
Strasbourg’s Best Galleries
Housed in a huge glass building, Strasbourg’s Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art sits on the banks of the River Ill. The permanent exhibitions give an overview of major art movements, including impressionism to surrealism. Don’t forget to stop off at its second floor café which looks out across Petite Paris.
Tomi Ungerer’s many illustrations and cartoons are displayed in the Tomi Ungerer Museum. Housed in a 19th-century villa, the works on show highlight the famous Strasbourger’s talent across many genres, from children’s book illustrations to political caricatures. A number of works from Ungerer’s notable colleagues are also in display.
