The fiddlers and bodhran drummers flock to Galway, which counts Irish music as a major part of its heritage. There are also many sights to see in town, with a superb medieval church, the city’s original walls and landmarks dating back to the “Tribes” – the 14 merchant families who once ruled the town. Galway’s cobbled streets, colourful buildings and the sparkling River Corrib all create an atmosphere that is sure to delight every visitor.
Galway’s nickname is “The City of Festivals” and it’s no secret why. In October, the Galway Theatre Festival takes place with plenty to showcase the city’s vibrant arts scene in the best possible light. Even if you can’t catch one of the festivals, there’s lots of other opportunities to see some of Ireland’s finest performers. Galway has five major theatres, and the staff at your four star hotel will be only too happy to help you decide which play to see first.
Galway has lots of well-preserved relics of ancient Ireland within easy reach and you should be able to get some great advice from hotel staff about which of the county’s dolmens and Neolithic standing stones to visit.
