"Room was lovely and clean and plenty or space. Staff on reception very helpful and nice.
Only small downside was it would be good to put in the description that the parking area is tight and it was a bit of a struggle parking a larger car"

"Will definitely be coming back. All the staff were super friendly and helpful. Food was amazing. Truly enjoyed my time in the pub and making friends with the locals! Highly recommend this place as a solo traveller as they make you feel extremely welcome!"

"Excellent location for the racing - stayed 3 nights in total which included parking. It was a little run down but very good value for money. Had microwave, kettle and fridge in the room, with tea coffee sugar and milk. Room was clean, a little run down in places with marks on the wall etc, windows a little dirty, but nothing overly bad. The bed was comfy and clean. Toilet and bathroom clean and shower was very good. Would recommend and we will be staying again. I had read the reviews and was...

"We didn’t stay! As the hotel decided to cancel the evening before the Coldplay concert due to weather! What absolute rubbish. So disappointed and would never consider staying there again. Even paid upfront and booked months in advance. If I had have cancelled within 24 hours I would have been charged! We had to book another hotel which cost us above the odds just so we could attend the concert. A very upsetting and stressful experience. "

"All as expected, central location. Not far from car parks/railway and bus station. Staff all lovely and very helpful . Bar very popular. Room comfortable and clean."

"Friendly staff, easy to check in, spacey room for a solo traveller. The room was not super clean but clean and tidy enough, nothing to worry about. The location was good—walkable distance to the shambles and the bus stop to Whitby and Scarborough."

"Father and son stopover after two days of hiking during a long drive home. The Wellington Hotel was exactly what we needed — easy check‑in, no fuss, clean rooms, comfortable beds, hot showers, and a genuinely tasty breakfast that set us up for the rest of the journey. Simple, welcoming, and spot‑on. Highly recommended."

We brought our grandsons to stay overnight as had a two day pass to Flamingoland. Check-in was quick and easy, lovely welcoming landlady. The family room was clean and tidy, with ample room for the 4 of us. Had an evening meal there, with good childrens menu and the Breakfast next morning was delicious! Overall a very pleasant experience and the boys (ages 3 and 6) were made to feel included and welcome..
We would certainly recommend this hotel as a base for visiting the surrounding area.

All staff made us very welcome
Brilliant room and fantastic location.
The only downside was we thought it was a dog free hotel. Maybe this was just in the bedrooms as we saw 3 large dogs at one table in the restaurant and another dog at the next table whilst we were waiting for food to be served. Our room was immaculate though and showed no signs of any pets having been in there.
We were unable to use the shower as it just dripped out but as we were on a short stay we just used the bath...

The village was quiet and so pretty, the room was beautiful and the bed was so comfortable, we were really well looked after and made to feel so welcome, breakfast was amazing every morning and nothing was to much trouble,
I would recommend a stay here instead of being in busy York
And the chocolate brownies they sell in the coffee shop are something special as well as their own blend of coffee

Amazing hostel. I really enjoy my stay here.
Owner Glenn is so helpful, resourceful and kind to have a chat. The volunteers Kasia and Dan are lovely to talk with.
It feels a very cosy hostel, not too crowded, noisy and neither a party hostel. I was visiting for tourism and leisure and while many of the guests staying here for work or business, there were no issues.
And Glenn kindly helped to sorted out a minor issue in the room very effectively.
Just a note there is no stove but a microwave...

Property lovely, high standard interior.
Staff on reception felt a little awkward as if on guard sat at a desk near the stairs but were always friendly.
Access was a little difficult due to cars parked around the entrance to the car park. I guess to avoid the additional charge per night extra charge which we paid. Upon leaving our car was covered in tree sap but it will wash off.
We stayed for 4 days and no one came into our room to empty our bins, replenish toiletries or restock the hot drink...

We stayed at Diamonds Inn for 2 nights during our York visit. Best part of the hotel is location, within walking distance to York walls, minster, shambles market, and restaurants. Our family room was very spacious, clean, tidy, well maintained. Overall it was an excellent stay.

The cottage was gorgeous, in a lovely quiet location and parking at the back. It was spotlessly clean and beautifully decorated. We only stayed a night but it had almost everything you'd need for a stay. A bit of soap in the bathroom and teatowel/towel and washing up liquid in the kitchen with some milk for a cuppa when you arrive would have made it perfect. The bedding and towels were lovely and soft and smelt nice and the bed was very comfy. It was close to Hornsea and a large Tesco. I would...
