“Worst place ever - don't go!!!!!”
I don't know where to begin; it was so awful. Naples itself is an absolute dump. There are piles of rubbish (not even in bin bags) all along the pavements with rats running through it. The place absolutely stinks, you can smell it within a mile of arriving. Within an hour of arriving at the Hotel Cavour a woman was mugged right in front of us, pushed to the ground and her bag and necklace stolen. You don't want to go far in the evening as around the hotel are lots and lots of 'street people', mainly men hovering in groups. They all stare at you and make you feel extremely uncomfortable and unsafe. My daughter had her boob grabbed and I had my bum pinched. However, if you want to buy a necklace, it won't be too long before you're offered one from the many thieves around the hotel (like we were - probably the same woman we saw it stolen from!). The hotel room was dark and dank and the bathroom absolutely stunk - I think the drains need cleaning. Our view from the so called 'balcony' was a view of the other balconies on the opposite side of the hotel. From here we could see someone weeing in his toilet and the maid swish brown dirty water from the mopped floor onto the balcony below - someone's clothes got a nice washing of dirty water! We had 180 euros stolen from our locked hotel room; when we went to the police station (opposite the hotel) to report it, the police told us it had happened before. So basically, someone inside the hotel is thieving from rooms. DON'T GO!
“Friendly but shabby”
Very central hotel but shabby room and not too clean. Noisy square with buiding work and lots of doubtful looking street trading at all hours.
“Great Hotel”
I was initially concerned after I booked this hotel as all the websites warned that the area around the main train station was dangerous, but it was the perfect location! The bus from the airport dropped me virtually at the door & the service was great. The room was exactly what I needed for while I was there, but it had character, like a crooked door. It did not have a safe in the room, but the hotel staff were happy to keep important things like your passport with the keys downstairs which was maned at all times. The location was fantastic as it was a short stroll to the best pizza in the world (Da Michele) which was filled with 'Eat Pray Love' fans & to the train station which got me to Pompeii & Herculaneum for a bargain at €4.50 return. The breakfast was nothing special but still good enough (I could not get used to the sweet breakfast). The area around is filled with little stalls selling knock off designer wears and was not as dangerous as previous warned, its like any big city, you just need to be aware of your surroundings. If your looking for a base to sightsee, I would recommend this hotel for location, cleanliness & helpful staff.
“Acceptable for our needs”
Excellent position near the central station. Alibus dropped us off so easy access to the hotel. Rather brusk reception but able to check in early and quickly - which was very welcome having been up since 04.00!!. Porterage very efficient and friendly and sign language worked well. Our room had a lovely large balcony which was a great bonus and really welcome on return from long days out. En suite plumbing something to be desired but adequate once we got the hang of it! Good towels replenished daily but bed linen has seen better days. Breakfast quite adequate but marginally boring as the same things each day. Wide range of visitors so great to mingle with other people from many countries including a "hard of hearing group" who were fantastic fun. Requests about accommodation dealt with adequately but directions about Naples not really seen as the hotel's business!! A good central hotel to stay, buses etc. close by - once you have worked out how to use them!
“as expected”
the hotel was close to the train station. For the price and rating it was as I expected.
“Decent place to stay in Naples”
I had no problems with this hotel. Good value for the price.
“Horrible Location”
This hotel was right by the train station, and was surrounded by homeless. The city was dirty and rundown. The hotel was a 2 star at a conservative best. It was completely outdated. The bedspread was stained. My bathroom had a door that went on to a tiny balcony, but the door didn't close all the way so there was constant air and bugs coming in. The showerhead had not been cleaned in I don't know how long and the water shot out in every direction from only about half the holes.
“Enter at your own risk!”
I have to mention that I have traveled quite a bit. I have never ever been subjected to a hotel like this. It is listed as a 3 star but, this is definitely a mistake. This hotel is a cross between the movies "vacancy" and "psycho." I had them take me to 3 different rooms. One was more disgusting than the next. Shabby old furniture, dark, dingy rooms and halls. There was no heat on a cold day. The lights went out for 1/2 hour while my husband was in the shower. There were pieces of short hair all over the sheets. I had to sleep on top of the bedspread, with all my clothes on. I had to keep my jacket on while sleeping because there was no heat. I actually didn't sleep because my family and I did not feel safe. The bathroom was dirty and the drinking cups were dirty. It was a nightmare. The worst part being that we paid for being tortured like this. I was quite surprised and disgusted!
“Location Matters”
This hotel was fine. The location (Garibaldi Square) is a scary place. The close proximity of the train station should have tipped me off as to the hotel location, but I went by other reviews.
