Independent Hotels in Jordan

As well as the major chains, Jordan has a choice of independent hotels in the capital, Amman, and other locations. These independent hotels are often family-run businesses, and offer the visitor a stay that may have a more individual character, even quirkiness, than that of a major operator, but without compromising the comfort, amenities and good value that every traveller wants. You can also be sure of a stay that is distinctively Jordanian, with food, drink and hospitality that speaks of Jordan’s warm welcome to its guests. Use Expedia’s search filters to find the independent hotel that’s perfect for you, in terms of location, room and bed type, amenities and price.

What to Do in Amman

Amman is Jordan’s capital city, a bustling mix of ancient and modern, so there is plenty for you to see and do. Your hotel staff will be pleased to help you book any number of excursions and guided tours in and around the city. Historical highlights include the old Citadel, with its mix of interesting ruins and splendid views across the city, the well-preserved Roman Amphitheatre, and the Ahl Al Kahf, the Cave of the Seven Sleepers, which is mentioned in the Quran. A short drive from Amman brings you to the great network of Greco-Roman remains at Jerash – be sure to spend some time at the Hippodrome, the wonderfully preserved South Theatre, and the large Temples of Zeus and Artemis.

Shopping and Eating in Amman

Amman offers such a diversity of colourfully authentic shopping and eating opportunities that your only problem will be finding time to fit them all in. Rainbow Street is perhaps the city’s best known market thoroughfare, a vibrant collection of market stalls by day with a choice of lively restaurants and coffee shops in the evening. The adjoining Souk Jara offers a wide variety of locally made craft items, such as hand-made soaps, jewellery and textiles. Amman has an excellent choice of restaurants, serving authentically Jordanian dishes – be sure to try the kanafeh, a cheese pastry soaked in sugary syrup very typical of the Levantine region, washed down with some of the mint tea you’ll find across Amman and, most likely, in your independent hotel.
