An okay hotel with a great view

Posted 27-Sep-2014
Pros: above
Cons: above
Location: above
Our room overlooked tiled rooftops and soaring towers. Below was a very busy canal. At night, visitors, tourists , locals would visit trying to entice huge white swans and ducks to draw near. The canal's calm surface reflected images of rustic walls and scattered light patterns. We found the hotel staff eager to please and help was always available. The downstairs dining room exemplified fine dining. Breakfast was included. Unfortunately our room was rather tired. Carpets throughout the hotel and in our room were worn and stained. Towels that were provided were worn and rather stiff. The shower was an apparatus connected to a faucet in an open bathtub. The bedding smelled of tobacco and there were burn marks. There was often a lack of water pressure in the flush toilet so we ended up supplying that pressure. The room needs a complete make-over but the view makes up for the inconveniences.

This was a great hotel in the centre of Bruge.

Posted 06-Sep-2014
Pros: Helpful and friendly staff; location; rooms.
Cons: Needs new carpet and a hot breakfast.
Location: Everything is walking distance, very close.
The hotel staff were very helpful and friendly. It was a very comfortable hotel, walking distance to all the sights of Bruge.

Location is absolutely perfect!

Posted 02-Sep-2014
Pros: The location and the overall feel of this hotel are amazing!
Cons: bathrooms could use an update. New pillows and mattresses would help. Wifi throughout the hotel would be nice.
Location: Its literally in the absolutely heart of town.
As previous reviewers have said, the location of this hotel is absolutely perfect. Right the heart of Bruges, and probably at the most photographed spot. We had a suite with a canal view, so I can only comment on that room, but it was pretty amazing. The views were incredible, and it was exactly what we were looking for. I don't know what previous reviewers were complaining about, the carpets in the hotel were fine, and the only problem with the bathroom is the lack of a real shower, but that is not unusual in old European hotels. The restaurant for dinner was wonderful, and the service was quite good. Breakfast was very simple, but still good with fresh pastries, and great service. And as a bonus, you get to drink your coffee while looking out the window at the canal and all the swans coming in for their breakfast too. Overall, a great old town experience. No wifi in rooms and only so-so beds and bathrooms keep from a 5 star rating. A bit expensive, but for the location, it is really worth it.

Classic hotel with extremely friendly staff!

Posted 06-Aug-2014
Pros: Look, staff, breakfast, and location.
Cons: The wifi needs to be available in rooms and places other than the lobby.
Location: Perfect location in the centre of everything (shops, restaurants, bars, and tourist attractions). We could not have picked a better location!
This is a very nice but very old looking and feeling hotel (which is awesome if you're looking for that kind of experience which we were). The location is AMAZING since we literally didn't walk further than 15 minutes to get to any destination. It was close to a lot of hidden gem bars/restaurants like le trappiste, cafe rose red, 2be Beer wall (you can see it across the water from the hotel), and Staminee de garre. There are tons of restaurants right outside the door and they're open from breakfast all the way through dinner. It was a 10euro cab ride to the station when we had to leave Bruges and it only took us 10 minutes to get from the station to the hotel when we arrived and took the metro ourselves. The staff were incredibly friendly. There is a great free breakfast in the morning where the staff want to make sure you have coffee, tea, and even a boiled egg on top of the pastries, croissants, meat/cheese, and jams that they provide. A woman at the front desk was very helpful when we arrived by showing us where our main places of interest were on the map and providing her own recommendations, and the cleaning lady was also extremely pleasant which made our stay extra welcoming. The wifi doesn't work unless you're on the main floor though so if you're travelling for business this could be a problem. I would definitely stay here again and Bruges is absolutely amazing! Can't wait to go back.

Great location

Posted 16-Jul-2014
The hotel is very old but ideally situated on the river. The d├ęcor suits the period of the hotel, however it could do with a complete refurbishment. Our room was on the street side but had river glimpses. It was small and getting out of the bathroom resulted in me knocking into the bed. A tall man would find using the toilet a bit of a problem as it is sited under a sloping roof. Pro: ideal location to see what Bruges has to offer. Good breakfast. Con: room size, difficulty carrying bags up two flights of stairs, no WiFi in rooms, problem with taxi access because of location, dinner overpriced.

Excellent location, but needs renovation

Posted 23-Jun-2014
You can't beat the location of this hotel. Contrary to what other reviewers said, we had no noise problem from the nearby bell tower as the bells stop at ~7 pm until the next morning. The staff was very polite and helpful accommodating our 4-night stay. Breakfast was good, but not excellent. The hotel needs major renovation effort, however: the beds, floors, carpentry, sheets, etc. are obviously wear out. Note that double bedding is in fact two separate beds with a gap in between

The Best In Bruges!

Posted 20-Jun-2014
Pros: The Service of the staff. the Character of the hotel.
Cons: The carpet.
Location: In the city Center.Boat Trip pier.
It's a Wow Hotel! The Best in Bruges. My husband and I arrived late in the evening from our Amsterdam day trip from Brussels, the staff waited for us.The restaurant was closed when we arrived but Ms. Christine gave some snacks which was essential to my husband health and medication. I would also like to express my appreciation of the service given by Tina and Christine and the most pleasant personalities. Certainly, I hope to see you all again.
