“Location is EXCELLENT!”

The location is the best and most important aspect of this hotel. It's located steps from the main train station in Antwerp. This train station is the locaiton of the bus drop off from the Brussels Airport as well as the location to take trains to other parts of Belgium and other countries. We used it to travel to Paris, Brugges, and from the airport. We literally could wheel our luggage across the street and grab a train. Location is also near many eateries and the best shopping. Hotel was clean. Front desk was very helpful. Workout facility was bigger than expected. I especially appreciated the hot water kettle in the room as it allowed us to have tea when coming in from the cold weather. Be forewarned, internet access is free, but not unlimited. There is a limit within a 24 hour period. I believe it was on the download capacity. I wouldn't say the hotel is in excellent condition. It's obviously a hotel that has been around a while. Some of the guest room doors, for example, had pieces of paneling missing. Comfortable stay and would stay there again if I were to do it again!

“Good business hotel near station”

Good, neat business-like hotel. Across the square from Antwerpen-Centraal. Spacious 'business' room (more like a studio) though tiny windows. Be aware that (from what I saw) the area around the hotel is a bit dull -- not great if you were there for a romantic weekend or as a tourist.

“Very convenient”

The location of this hotel is terrific, just across from the central train station and zoo entrance, close to shopping and restaurants, a nice walking distance from the city square. Overall we were pleased with the hotel and felt the price was just right.

“Nice Hotel in Central Antwerp”

Very friendly. courteous staff. Welcoming and helpful. We especially enjoyed our 'business class' room and amenities--great bath and shower. Overall, a clean, well appointed, comfortable room, including free wireless and an extensive, delicious, hot and cold breakfast buffet that we were glad we included as an upgrade.

“An extremely comfortable and relaxing stay in Antwerp.”

The Blu Astrid is easily identifiable by it's distinctive design and height and is conveniently located for the wonderful Central train station across the square. It is a short walk (fifteen minutes or so) to the Centre and there are also trams outside the hotel plus the metro. We used neither and walked but if you do a lot during the day this may feel like more of an effort in the evening. We had booked a Business Room at a reduced rate and were more than happy with the pleasant decor, space, design and attention to detail. We wanted the hotel to be part of our treat of a weekend away and that wish was met. The King size bed was very comfortable, we had a quiet top floor room and a peaceful nights sleep. We were also able to open the window (not something I have found at every hotel). The buffet breakfast was fine however we did find it a bit manic on our first morning when extra rooms had to be opened up to cope with the numbers and queues were forming (there is no table service) however it was quiet the next two days and we were able to enjoy a window table with a view and eat in a more relaxed environment. The staff were pleasant and friendly, only let down on one occasion at the bar when we didn't think service was quite up to scratch but otherwise all was good.

Area recommendations

It goes without saying that the most charming part of Antwerp is its lovely old town with it's beautiful architecture, main square and winding streets.

Getting there

We took the Eurostar which took 2 hrs 20 mins, it was nice relaxing way to travel. When you arrive at Midi (or Zuid as it is known) station in Brussels you just need to go down a level into the main train station to take you on to your next destination. There are escalators down the sides to take you up to your platform. The train to Antwerp took 45 minutes, they run about every 20 mins.

Dining

It might be worth booking as it seemed quite a busy and popular restaurant but we had a nice meal at Cafe Horta on Hopland. If you like a steak we didn't manage to get to Ciro's but had a very good feed at El Bife if you are pushing the boat out. We had a few disappointing meals in the old town so would probably advise trying restaurants which are recommended on guides.

“A truly well run hotel with great facilities.”

We found the staff and facilites at the hotel really added to the enjoyment of the weekend. The map we were given on check- in was much better than the one in the guide book and helped us to make the most of our stay.The restaurant food and service were excellent and the view over the square to the magnificent architecture of the station and zoo was great. Our room was large and very comfortable. The fitness suite is small but modern and the pool with its sauna, steam room and jacuzzi were lovely and looked out over that great view. All the key places of interest are within 15 minutes walk but the trams stop outside if you want to use them. They are cheap and frequent. We would definitely recommend this hotel and would stay there again..

Area recommendations

The Sunday market is great. It is next to Ruben's House. The house is well worth a visit; it is like a magnificently furnished dolls' house. Entrance to this also gives you admission to the museum across the road which houses a number of Breugals. The exterior and interior of the central station is amazing! Walk through the Grote Markt and down to the river. The view from the bridge is great. Nearby is the Steen which is also worth visiting. The whole city is best explored on foot as there are many nooks and crannies and fab eateries to be found.

“Fantastic hotel - great price from Expedia”

Brilliant hotel to stay in with a family. We travelled with our 3 year old son. reception staff very efficient and courteous. very helpful with what to see and where to eat in Antwerp. Aquatopia is next door (discounted tickets for guests) and the zoo is next to the train station on the opposite side of the square. hotel room was an excellent standard , king size bed , TV etc etc. Free leisure facilities on the first floor include a small pool, spa bath, steam room and sauna available to all guests. We would stay here without a doubt on our next visit to Antwerp. already recomended it to friends upon our return home.

Area recommendations

Pretty much all of it. quite busy round the cathedral area with restaurants and bars. the Meir area has good shops and is where Reubens house and museum are located.
