Good Location for NEC. Hotel in need of updating.

Posted 19-Apr-2015
Pros: Restaurant food Location Spa
Cons: Staff attitude & service Rooms need updating Spa needs updating
Location: Close to nec & airport
Good location, walk to NEC in 10 minutes. Hotel busy. Staff generally not customer focused. Bar food pricey & disappointing, restaurant food very good, good choice & reasonably priced but service slow. Spa was nice to visit, although small & needs updating.

Lots of potential - let down by bad management.

Posted 31-Mar-2015
Pros: Location and the Health Spa.
Cons: The general state of repair, the quality of the food and the condition of the gym.
Location: Very central for all things relating to the Midlands and Birmingham / Stratford etc. For business people it is ideal for the NEC.
On the face of it the Arden has all of the right attributes. A pleasant bar, a health club including swimming pool and gym, good location for the NEC and close to major road networks. It should be a good choice - especially for business people attending the NEC for exhibitions. Sadly it is becoming run down and neglected. The gym is in a bad state of repair, the food is poorly prepared and uninspiring and the room facilities are neglected. During my last stay the loo cistern was faulty, the sink taps were faulty and the bedding was one of those cheap thin duvets that don't even cover the bed. Its a shame - with a little more attention from the management they could turn it into a venue worthy of good reviews. I will only return if I can't get anything better in the vicinity. Maybe that is the problem; getting accommodation at a sensible price near the NEC is very difficult so as demand increases maybe complacency sets in...

Getting there

Posted 30-Mar-2015
Pros: Good staff and the place had everything one needs for an overnight.
Cons: It's maybe a wee bit 1980s decoratively, but at the price I paid, I'm not complaining.
Couldn't walk safely to it from NEC, or so I was advised by very kindly NEC staff. Got a taxi to it from the station less than half a mile which cost a fiver. The location was kind of the point. However, it was very good value overall and the staff were most helpful and courteous.

Hotel close to NEC for event.

Posted 26-Mar-2015
Pros: only £5 to NEC in taxi between 3 of us. Quiet rooms, tidy and clean but all needs a massive updating and modernising as feels tired and clinical.
Cons: The beds are hard and bathrooms updating as seals look dirty around baths
Location: Near to NEC
Stayed here last year also. Parking good and free. Rooms were quiet seeing it was the eve of Crufts :-) Breakfast and choice was ok, continental for £7.50? and Full English £10 which is about the normal price to expect. Food hot and replenished but just seemed to lack finesse and care.

Evening meal

Posted 23-Mar-2015
Pros: There was a gym and suana
Cons: The restaurant service and availability of the food.
Location: Very busy area and hard to find.
All three of my choices off the evening menu were not available (mainly fish dishes). This was at 7.50 so why but these items on the menu?I ordered a drink at my table but had to remind three people. This drink came after my starters had arrived; too late. I ordered pate for starters but I had to ask for the toast that came with it.

Great hotel with easy access to NEC

Posted 23-Mar-2015
Pros: Leisure facilities
Location: Great for visiting the NEC and easy access to Birmingham city centre from Birmingham International.
Lovely hotel with excellent leisure facilities. Perfect for relaxing after a busy day walking round the NEC. Great to be able to park the car for free and get to the NEC on foot or head into the city on the train. A very enjoyable experience.

Pros: Location (near Genting Arena)
Cons: See above
Bed was awfully, mattress far too soft. Bathroom smelt mouldy although none was apparent. Ordered sandwich via room service, about 10 mins later we were told we couldn't have one, then we could......when they arrived bread was stale

Disappointing stay at the Arden Hotel

Posted 09-Mar-2015
The overall decor of the room was shabby and outdated. The room was very dirty and had not been cleaned to a very high standard. There were dog hairs in the bed. I was disappointed to find out that there were dogs staying in the hotel while we were there. This was not stated in any advertising for the hotel. This was a very substandard hotel for the cost of £200 per night.
