The hotel location was excellent, next to the university and within a minute's walk to the main plaza and Rathaus.
All amenities available like hairdryer, toiletries. Good and plentiful breakfast.
Would have loved to stay a little longer to enjoy more of Rostock and the surroundings.
Hotel is new and shiny and the facilities are clearly the best in town. However, the service level is patchy and does not reflect the excellent infrastructure. Credit where it’s due, the restaurant staff are very good. The food outlets we tried, the main restaurant and the bistro bar, both ran very well.
The front desk and the bar service however are not delivering 5 star service. The front desk team seemed unsure about everything. Whilst we were there the internet went down i.e. both the business centre and the wifi. There seemed no urgency to do anything about this. By day 4 when we left, still not working. I imagine that had the tills stopped then the IT hiccup might have been fixed! There is a lot of technology in this hotel and they must have in-house IT. Totally unacceptable at these prices and more annoying by the shrugging of shoulders when asked when it would be fixed. The bar area too is most unwelcoming verging on intimidating.
Overall not good enough to guarantee a return visit.

"Very nice hotel, but brace yourself for the noise!"
The hotel is right in the center of Rostock, across the street from the town hall and square, and about 100 yards from one end of a long shopping street (like Copenhagen's Strøget). The hotel, the room, the restaurant, and the staff all were very good. The hotel and room were clean and modern. The bed was comfortable, and the shower was great! The staff was capable and friendly in a reserved way. The restaurant was very good, as was the restaurant staff. The downside, though, was that it was *very* noisy. The town is very old, and the streets around the hotel are made of cobblestone, such that you can hear every car go by, whether or not your window is open. Also, we heard lots of people talking on the street, and perhaps because we were there on a Saturday night, it was especially noisy. The fact of the noise erased much of the positives of the hotel. It's not the hotel's fault, but it is a fact.
We were traveling from Prague to Copenhagen by train and stayed in Rostock for one night. The hotel was 5 stops from the main train station by trolley #5 and stopped directly in front of the Hotel. The next day we took a taxi to the ferry at a cost of 20 Euro"s and 20 minutes. It all worked perfect. It's a nice place to stay. I'd go back for a summer holiday.
It has to be the best hotel in Warnemünde. Has a great location, the staff is really friendly and do their best to understand english. The only complaint I have is that for some reason an awful smell was coming from the shower drain. They sent a technician to fix it but it reappeared the next day.
The IFA Rugen was perfect for our family -- right on the beach, convenient to the pool and playground, and near the promenade. We loved it and are planning our next trip! THe room was basic, fully-equipped, and clean.
