"Check-in was OK but had to wait a while as there was a queue and only one member of staff on duty, so suggest more reception staff needed to avoid delays checking in. Room 816 was good but sorry to report several carpet stains were very visible. Tissues in the bathroom had not been checked as only two left in the box. All staff at reception and the restaurant were very customer focused polite and friendly."

The room was spacious but showing some signs of the age and maintenance burden of such a large old , but nothing too obvious. The lift was a wonder - long waits at busy times, 2 people plus luggage and sounding like a dumb waiter. It was not clear why the HP sauce bottles at breakfast were only available on request - is there a shortage?"

"Well what can I say. Second visit to this fabulous hotel and again I can’t fault it. From the moment you walk in the grand front door, checking in and going to your room it is a delight. Lovely restored old property sympathetically completed without spoiling the grandness. Large bedrooms continue with the grandness. Breakfast, choices extend to salmon dishes with poached eggs etc, alongside the usual buffet style hot options and cereals etc. Looking forward to returning to this magnificent hotel...

Leave your car parked up for the time you stay there if only staying a couple of days — everything in town is walkable, and there are brilliant public transport options to get you through to Harrogate. Very comfortable room, and a really great on-site pub & restaurant. "Highly recommended. Staff are fantastic, all meals excellent, the lounge and bar areas are really nice. Couple of minor things easily remedied, window plunder in the room was damaged & ash window would not stay open. The shower head badly leaked and just needs a new seal. We went on Motorbikes and parking was easy and secure with fantastic trips out from the hotel. "
