Everything about Ginger House Museum is wonderful. The staff are amazing, the rooms are spectacular and they make you feel so welcome and at home.

The location and views are undoubtedly the hotel’s strongest points — the scenery is magnificent and the setting is beautiful. Unfortunately, the hotel itself did not live up to what we expected for the price. We paid around £280 per night for 3 nights, which was over ₹100,000, and for that price the rooms and general finish felt very dated and poorly maintained. The furniture was old, the flooring was damaged in places, and some of the switches and fittings were visibly coming apart. Housekeeping was also disappointing. We left our wet towels in the bathtub to be replaced, but they were simply taken away and not properly replenished. The food was probably the biggest disappointment. The traditional Indian dishes were generally fine, but the continental options were very poor and often quite strange. Even the coffee appeared to be made from a sachet mixed with hot water rather than from an actual coffee machine. We had also paid for the dinner package, yet even basic fizzy drinks such as 7Up were not included. We decided to leave one night early and gave the hotel two days’ notice, but they were unwilling to refund the unused night. Given the overall standard and the amount we had paid, this was particularly disappointing Staff were pleasant and service was good but nothing compensated for the outdated conditions, poor housekeeping and disappointing food.
