We chose AlpenHotel Fischer because of its advertised four-star rating, but our stay was disappointing. Although the location is excellent and our room was spacious, it felt outdated and had a strong musty, moldy odor throughout our stay. The hotel is in need of refurbishment and better ventilation. Parking is free but extremely limited with very tight spaces. The biggest disappointment was breakfast. There was no one at the entrance to greet or seat guests, so we chose an available table overlooking the mountains. As we finished breakfast, we were told we were sitting at the wrong table and were moved to a separate windowless dining room with a noticeable musty smell. We later learned the main dining area was reserved for half-board guests, but this policy was never explained at check-in. While getting water, my husband overheard a staff member remark, "Americans," while shaking her head. We reported the incident to the front desk. Sabrina handled the situation professionally and explained the seating policy, but the experience left a very negative impression. After returning home, we found older reviews describing similar experiences, including American guests being seated in the same musty room while the main dining area remained largely empty. The hotel's location near Eagle's Nest, Wimbachklamm, and Lake Königssee is excellent, and both Sabrina and Raphael at the front desk were courteous and helpful.
